The Power Of Organic Ingredients

The Power Of Organic Ingredients

At Evolve we truly believe in the power of organic, which is why we do everything we can to provide you with affordable and effective organic skincare which targets and works to help specific skincare problems and worries.

But organic ingredients aren’t just important when it comes to skincare, they’re also important when it comes to feeding our bodies and when it comes to looking after our planet. So, what really is the difference between organic and non-organic ingredients? And what exactly makes organic better?

What Is An Organic Product

An organic product is one which has been produced without any man-made synthetics touching it or any of the ingredients within it.

What Is A Non-Organic Product

A non-organic product is one which has been produced with the assistance of synthetic chemicals such as man-made fertilisers helping its, or the ingredients within its, growth.

The Difference Between Organic and Non-Organic

The biggest difference between organic and non-organic ingredients is how they are produced. Organic foods such as fruit, vegetables, and crops are all produced without synthetic pesticides, fertilisers, and herbicides, as well as no genetically modified organisms or growth hormones.

This means that organic produce is grown in a way that is more natural, so that when we consume it, whether that is through feeding our skin or our stomachs, we are only giving ourselves the good stuff, rather than all the added additives and potentially harmful chemicals that sit on non-organically produced ingredients.

Why Are Organic Ingredients Better For You

Organic ingredients have so many benefits from providing a healthier diet, to glowing skin.

Organic Skincare

When it comes to skincare, our ancestors had been using natural and organically produced ingredients for centuries before any form of synthetic pesticides or chemicals came about. This is because they work. Although some products that use synthetic ingredients may boast to be fast acting with quicker results, they also have the ability to potentially damage your skin.

Popular synthetic ingredients that are often found in cosmetics such as Sodium Lauryl Sulfate and synthetic fragrances and colours can cause irritation, including dryness and redness because they are not designed to work alongside our skin.

Organically produced ingredients are designed to work in harmony with our skin, reducing irritation and protecting our skin barrier to deliver long lasting results rather than quick fixes.

Organic Fruit and Vegetables

Studies  have shown that organically produced foods  contain higher levels of antioxidants and certain micronutrients that our bodies need to flourish, such as zinc, vitamin C and iron. In fact, some have even said that organic produce can have a 69% higher antioxidant level than non-organic produce.

Xenohormesis is also another great benefit of consuming organically produced foods. When ingredients are produced with the assistance from synthetic herbicides and pesticides, they aren’t exposed to environmental stressors, however when produce is grown organically it is exposed to these stressors which results in us getting added immune support and stress resistance properties when we eat them - this is what xenohormesis refers to.

It is understood that ‘xenohormesis is a biological principle that explains how environmentally stressed plants produce bioactive compounds that can confer stress resistance and survival benefits to animals that consume them,’ and that, ’xenohormetic plant compounds can, when ingested, improve longevity and fitness by activating the animal's cellular stress response,’(1).

How Can Going Organic Help The Planet

Not only does going organic have so many benefits for our skin and overall health, but it helps the planet too!

The use of synthetic chemicals from non-organic farms has led to a decline in our pollinators such as bumblebees. These are an essential part of our ecosystem as they pollinate over a third of the foods that we eat! Switching to organic produce means that toxic chemicals are kept away from our wildlife, and a focus is instead put on high nutrient soil which is much better and safer for creating habitats!

Another great way that going organic helps our planet is by helping to fight climate change. As it is a lot more energy efficient, organic farming has a much lower carbon footprint than its non-organic alternative.
