We love our skin, but we love our planet too - and sometimes, it’s hard to find earth-friendly skincare options.
Our new launch was a tricky one for us - we wanted to get that balance just right. UV radiation is responsible for 80% of visible ageing, so it’s something we’re keen to avoid! On the other hand, ingredients in traditional sun creams - especially Octinoxate and Oxybenzone - cause significant damage to the planet, as well as to our bodies. We were keen to find a natural alternative that protects our planet alongside protecting our skin.
How do conventional sun creams harm the planet?
Coral reefs are one of the world’s greatest wonders, and they’re found in warm, tropical seas. Those tropical seas come along with wonderfully warm weather - which is great news for holidaymakers! Sadly, the sun cream often used by those of us keen to soak up the sunshine can be incredibly damaging to coral reefs: around 90% of SPFs on the market leak into the sea and end up bleaching the coral and leading to their eventual death.
The reefs aren’t just pretty to look at, though: most scientists reckon that the ocean is the source for about half the world’s oxygen production. Coral reefs also house a diverse variety of ecosystems that can’t flourish when their homes are dying. Disrupting these ecosystems means that the balance of the oceans’ many food chains is altered, and many organisms are affected.
So how do we avoid that?
Lots of research! We’ve used non-nano mineral-based zinc oxide, which provides a physical barrier to both UVA and UVB rays. It leaves you with a subtly dewy finish, and is best suited to normal and dry skin types - but if you’re after a more matte look, just dust a layer of powder on over the top.
Anything else?
Yes! We’ve combined the effective sun protection of the Zinc Oxide with nourishing, anti-ageing ingredients, making the Climate Veil Tinted SPF 20 fantastic for your skin as well. Hyaluronic acid hydrates (a must in hot temperatures!) while the high levels of polyphenols in the Lingonberry Stem Cells battle free radicals, which cause skin damage. Lingonberry helps to decrease skin irritation, and reduces the appearance of any wrinkles or age spots that have already emerged. On top of that, they bolster skin’s firmness, and add a dose of hydration! Combined with Cacay Oil, which repairs and supports the skin barrier, your skin will be bouncy and hydrated, as moisturising ingredients are locked into skin. As always, our packaging is made from recycled materials and is fully recyclable, too.
