Getting a good night's sleep is not only important for your mind and body it is also vital for healthy, glowing skin!
Whilst we are asleep our skin gets to work regenerating and healing itself. Our body’s hydration levels also re-balance themselves which enables our skin to recover moisture. If you don't get enough sleep it can result in poor water balance which can lead to bags and circles under your eyes, as well as drying out your skin and produce more visible wrinkles. Not only that but when you are sleep deprived your skin makes more of the stress hormone cortisol. The increase in cortisol can lead to stress and inflammation in the body which can increase the severity of skin conditions such as acne and eczema.
1. Breathe
If you struggle to drop off at night try this simple breathing trick, it's the breathing equivalent to counting sheep!
Take a big breath in for five seconds then exhale for another 5 seconds
Focus on the sound of your breath, your heartbeat and the pace you're breathing at.
Repeat these steps until you fall asleep.
2. Switch Off
To drop off to sleep with ease and get a deep and successful night’s kip it is important to ensure that you switch off mentally and literally, so make sure you stop looking at your phone, tablet and laptop screens for at least 1 hour before going to sleep so your mind and body can relax!
3. Exercise
Regular exercise is amazing for your health, physically and mentally!
Getting daily exercise helps your body to fully rest and relax whilst you are sleeping, which helps your body to regenerate and heal your skin!
However don't exercise too close to your bedtime as you may find it harder to drop off!
4. Routine
Getting into a bedtime routine helps your body to regulate itself, helping you to drop off to sleep and stay asleep for the whole night.
You can also incorporate yoga into your nighttime routine to achieve a restful night's sleep! Focus on deep breathing to calm your mind and release physical tension.
5. Bathe
Have a bath before you get into bed and infuse your bath with a couple of drops of lavender, sandalwood or jasmine. Or you could combine all 3 to make yourself a bespoke relaxing oil blend!
TOP TIP- You could also add a couple of drops of Lavender oil onto your pillow!
6. Stay cool
Keep your bedroom cool to create a comfortable sleeping environment, this also will prevent you from sweating in the night, which can irritate your skin.
