Whilst we’ve been busy creating lots of lovely Christmas treats in the Evolve Studio, we’ve also been thinking about what all of our festive traditions are. All of our wonderful makers have put together their favourite Christmas festivities and what they’re looking forward to the most this holiday season...
Laura
We always celebrate Christmas with family at home, we never go away at this time of year and we take the opportunity to spend time together and visit family we may not have seen recently. There is a long tradition of music at Christmas in my family and we will be reforming the family band again this year, which is all about fun and joining in and less about musical perfection!!
Violaine
Raising children in a Franco-British household, we have to make sure that we stick to ALL the traditions, including opening our presents on the 24th (French), but still keeping one, ready to be opened on Christmas morning (British!) without forgetting to fill up a stocking for the children to open when they wake up (British). We have a Christmas meal on the 24th and another one on 25th! Christmas is the time of year when we get to see our distant family who live on the other side of the world (New Caledonia!) as they leave the beach behind to spend some time with us in the cold and wet!

In Germany, we watch loads of old Russian fairy tales over Christmas. We also put our tree up on the morning of the 24th, our tree is always a bit wonky and the decorations never match but we still love it anyway.

Our family celebrate Christmas every year on the 24th. We have a big Christmas dinner and we always set an extra space at the table just in case anyone unexpected should stop by.

Every year over Christmas I always watch The Polar Express with my kids. It’s one of my favourite traditions, no matter how many times we’ve seen it before.

Each year for Christmas I bake lots of bread! In our family we have a tradition where you put a coin into a loaf of bread when you are baking. The loaf is then broken into pieces and served to everyone by the eldest member of the family. The coin is thought to be a sign of goodluck for the year for whoever finds it in their piece.

I love getting away for Christmas and exploring how other cultures celebrate the holiday season. Last year I spent Christmas on the beach in Thailand and this year I’m really excited to be going to Lanzarote.

As my mum is Spanish, we always have an amazing, beautiful dinner with all the family on Christmas eve.. so needless to say there is a lot of food eaten at Christmas as we then also have our British Christmas lunch!

On Christmas Eve we have a special meal with 12 different delicious vegetarian dishes to symbolise Jesus’ 12 disciples. We always set an extra place at the table because no one should go hungry at Christmas. Before we can tuck in we have to wait until the first star appears in the sky to mark when Jesus was born.

In Romania the children sing songs outside their neighbours houses and afterwards they get a treat, it’s like trick or treating but for Christmas and it’s so fun to watch.
