Vitamin C is crucial for skin health. It is naturally present in the skin where it is used for the manufacture of collagen and it also protects the skin because of its powerful antioxidant properties. Human beings are among the only animals who can’t manufacture vitamin C inside their own bodies, which means we need to absorb it through our diet. However, consuming vitamin c through diet alone does not boost local levels in the skin effectively. The best way to boost the local levels of vitamin c in the skin is to apply topical vitamin C directly onto the skin.
There are so many benefits of topical vitamin C for your skin! Here are the most important ones for you to know:
Collagen is an essential part of the skin and vitamin C is one of the important factors in helping the body with collagen synthesis. When we increase topical vitamin C, we help to support naturally healthy collagen production, making our skin look healthy and young looking.
Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant which means that it can protect the skin from damage which could come from free radicals found in pollution and also protect it from sun damage caused by UV light and environmental stressors which cause premature ageing.
Clinical studies show that vitamin C helps to prevent the formation of pigmentation deep in the skin which means it helps to reduce dark spots, fade hyperpigmentation and make the skin look healthy, glowing and luminous.
Because vitamin C helps to boost collagen production and protect the skin, it has anti-ageing benefits. It contributes to healthy skin and a younger looking complexion. It also helps to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve skin elasticity.
Vitamin C has been clinically shown to have an anti-inflammatory action, which means it reduces inflammation and redness in the skin, helping it be soothed, calm and healthy.
Vitamin C also helps to increase certain parts of the skin barrier function and decreases transepidermal water loss helping skin to stay hydrated and healthy looking.
Now you know all about the amazing benefits of vitamin C, it’s time to learn about the different types of Vitamin C found in skincare products.
This is a high-tech oil-based form of vitamin C which transforms into the active form of vitamin C on contact with the skin. This is 100 times more absorbable than ascorbic acid which means it can be used in a lower concentration. It also can be used at a neutral pH, which makes it much kinder to skin. At Evolve Organic Beauty we love using this form of Vitamin C! Experience the amazing benefits of this form of vitamin C in our Bio-Retinol + C Booster.
This is a stable form of vitamin C, which transforms into the active form on contact with the skin. It’s clinically proven to boost collagen production and protect against skin damage and cellular ageing at low concentrations. It can be used at a neutral pH making it gentler on the skin. We chose this stable and gentle form of Vitamin C for our new Miracle Vitamin C Mask, for smoothing and brightening skin in just 3 minutes! We also use this form of Vitamin C in our colour-changing Enzyme + Vitamin C Cleanser Powder.
This was the first type of vitamin C that was used in skincare products. It’s highly effective but it’s also very unstable and sensitive to UV light and air. This means over time you find this form of vitamin C goes brown in the pot and it also makes it more likely to react with other ingredients. For it to work, it needs to be used in a high concentration and to be formulated with a very acidic pH which can make it irritating on the skin and that also makes it incompatible with other ingredients like AHA and retinol.
This is a stable form of vitamin C, but it is believed to be less powerful compared with ascorbic acid, and it may not penetrate the skin as effectively.
These are salts of vitamin C which are more stable and less irritating than ascorbic acid. However, they are not as well absorbed by the skin, and they may not provide the same antioxidant benefits as regular vitamin C.
Now you know about the benefits of vitamin C and the different types that are available, let’s find out how to use vitamin C in combination with other ingredients and incorporate it into your skincare routine.
AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acids. These are gentle fruit acids found in citrus fruits that are used to exfoliate the skin. Dermatologists advise these not to be combined with traditional forms of vitamin C like L ascorbic acid. This is because both ingredients can be quite irritating to the skin and used in acidic pHs, and if they are used together at a high concentration, this may make irritation more likely.
However, this is not an issue with newer stable forms of vitamin C, which are more gentle on the skin and neutral ph formulas which use both AHAs and Vitamin C at lower concentrations. In our Miracle Vitamin C Mask, we combine a gentle natural Alpha Hydroxy Acid blend with Ascorbyl Glucoside - a gentle and stable form of Vitamin C which can also be used at a neutral ph. We are able to use lower levels of Alpha Hydroxy Acids because we boost the efficacy of them by using Larch Extract to achieve a gentle and effective exfoliating action.
It is a similar story when vitamin C is combined with retinol. Retinol is a synthetic form of vitamin A that is used in skincare to boost cellular regeneration. It is an anti-ageing ingredient with great skin benefits, but it also comes with side-effects, including irritation and redness. Dermatologists do not advise combining retinol and vitamin C together because of the possibility of irritation.
Vitamin C can be safely combined with Hyaluronic Acid. Although hyaluronic acid sounds like a skin acid, it is actually a hydrating ingredient that forms part of the natural building blocks of skin. It can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water and it helps to plump up fine lines and wrinkles and hydrate the skin. When you combine Hyaluronic Acid with vitamin C this helps to enhance skin health, creating hydrated, glowing skin and a healthy and youthful complexion.
Vitamin C is such an all-round helpful ingredient that it’s a great ingredient to incorporate into several steps of your skincare routine. It can be used every day and also used in the evening as an effective treatment ingredient. It’s excellent to apply before going in the sun to help defend the skin from sun damage.
When using Vitamin C or any other new skincare ingredient it’s always good to do a patch test. This is because any ingredient can cause skin irritation and everybody’s skin is different. To do a patch test apply a small amount of the product you want to test behind your ear, or in the crease of your elbow and then wait 24 hours to check for any itching, irritation or redness.
Vitamin C is such a good all-rounder. It can be used by all skin types.
Vitamin C can safely be used by those with sensitive skin, but it is important to choose a product with newer forms of stable vitamin C that are gentler on the skin like ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate or ascorbyl glucoside. These do not need to be formulated at an acidic pH which could irritate sensitive skin. Try our Bio-Retinol + C Booster vitamin C serum that is suitable for sensitive skin.
Vitamin C can be used by all skin types including oily skin, as long as you choose a formulation that will not overload your skin. Try our Enzyme + Vitamin C Cleanser Powder for an oil-free form of vitamin C that you can leave on the skin for an extra exfoliating boost and to deep cleanse the skin, leaving it glowy and radiant.
Because vitamin C helps to restore the skin barrier layer it is great for use on dehydrated skin. Try Vitamin C serums that help to nourish the skin such as our Bio-Retinol + C Booster which contains a stable, oil-based form of vitamin C for extra nourishment.
]]>As the seasons change to winter and the temperature drops, you may find yourself questioning, “Why is my skin so dry?” There are a number of seasonal changes that can lead to dry skin.
Dry skin is caused by the outer layer of the skin not producing enough moisture (sebum). Dry skin can appear on any part of your body and can often make skin feel tight, rough and itchy. This could also lead to irritation causing redness and further sensitivity.
Although dry skin can happen anywhere on the body, your face is more vulnerable as it is continuously exposed to the climate around you.
Soothing skincare solutions for dry skin
Different weather conditions may affect your skin and how it acts. Your skin tends to be the driest in winter because both the temperature and humidity levels have dropped. This can lead to harsh, dry and cold weather creating dry, itchy skin.
If you’re the type of person who loves having the central heating on in the house so it’s snug and cosy, or love sitting in front of the fire in the evening then you may suffer with dry or dehydrated skin. This is because the heating source dries the surrounding air and causes low humidity which causes dehydrated skin.
Cold temperatures, harsh and dry weather conditions, as well as indoor heating, can cause the outer surface of the skin to become dehydrated in winter, leading to uncomfortable or sore skin.
Central heating can be a cause of dehydrated skin in winter
Some products designed for your skin can feature harsh synthetic chemicals and surfactants (foaming agents), which can be especially irritating if your skin becomes drier during winter months. These products can strip your skin of its natural oils leading to dryness and skin feeling tight and uncomfortable.
There are many things that may cause or result in sensitive skin. Here are a few of the most common:
Extremely dry flaky skin can often give way to skin sensitivities. When your skin loses too much water and oil and dries out it can begin to crack and scale. This can make skin sensitive to certain conditions and harsh ingredients, which can be especially true in winter and cold weather.
This is a common skin condition, often categorised early on by flushing or blushing in the face. This condition can often make skin sensitive and in some cases may cause burning or stinging sensations on the face.
Stress can affect your skin in many ways. One of which being that it can affect the hormone levels in your skin and aggravate any existing sensitivities. It may be one of the triggers for eczema and other sensitive skin conditions. It can also affect the effectiveness of your skincare routine, from disrupting your routine through forgetfulness or tiredness to affecting the way your skin reacts to your skincare products.
Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum helps to calm, soothe and hydrate stressed, dry skin
If you experience extremely sensitive skin you could actually be unknowingly allergic to a common ingredient that is used in your skincare routine. What you are interpreting as sensitive skin could be an allergic reaction. If you feel you have tried everything and cannot get your skin to react well or if your skin seems to calm when you are not using any products it may be worthwhile to get tested for common allergies to try to understand your skin better and be able to avoid any ingredients that cause it to react.
Look for hydrating, nourishing ingredients which can help to keep skin smooth and nourished and restore your skin barrier layer.
If your skin gets more sensitive in winter, look for skin soothing ingredients like Ectoin, Prickly Pear or Chaga Mushroom.
Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream contains Ectoin and Chaga Mushroom extract
Hyaluronic Acid is a natural building block of skin which helps to lock moisture into the skin for long lasting hydration. Although this is naturally produced in the skin, as we age our levels can drop and some people have naturally drier skin than others. Look for products that contain Hyaluronic Acid for extra hydration to prevent moisture loss. You can use it all year round but it is particularly helpful in the colder months.
Our global bestseller for hydrating skin: Hyaluronic Serum 200
Ectoin is a multi functional, clinically proven skincare active that can help to protect dry skin and sensitive skin in winter. It is an amino acid derived from a bacteria that was found in a salty lake in Egypt. This amino acid helps to structure the water around the cells of the bacteria and protect it from the harsh environment it lives in.
Ectoin is a soothing skincare ingredient originating from bacteria found in the Wadi desert
Ectoin has a multitude of benefits when used on the skin. It forms a protective barrier around skin cells, helping to restore the skin barrier layer and is clinically proven to double skin hydration. It also reduces scaling of the skin’s surface by 72% and skin roughness by 83%. It protects against extreme temperatures which can often cause sensitive skin to flare up in the winter. It also has powerful benefits against skin ageing and is clinically proven to boost skin elasticity and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. You can find it in our Pro+ Ectoin Moisturiser, which is a fragrance free cream designed for ultra sensitive skin.
Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream soothes and protects sensitive skin
Ceramides are part of the skin’s natural barrier layer. Harsh winds and cold weather have a drying effect and can damage this barrier layer. We can help to replenish this layer by using natural ceramides.
When you suffer with dry flaky skin you need to find products and a routine that will nourish, heal and protect your skin whilst locking in moisture. Dryness can often make skin appear dull rather than healthy and glowing. With this simple step by step winter skincare routine using our products, you’ll be moisturised, nourished and glowing in no time!
The first step in any good skin care routine is to use a good face cleanser. This will remove any dirt and unwanted bacteria from your face, allowing your following skin care products to absorb and perform better.
Our Gentle Cleansing Melt is great for gentle and effective cleansing as it is specifically designed for normal to dry skin, and as the name suggests, it is particularly gentle to avoid any skin irritation. It contains nourishing organic Baobab Oil which soothes and hydrates the skin, as well as natural sugar extracts which turn the cleanser into a creamy melt that easily washes away. This leaves the skin clean, calm and hydrated.
This can be used day or night as it’s a great makeup remover too! Just massage the cleansing balm onto your dry face - including your eye area - apply warm water to turn it into a creamy milk and simply rinse away. Don’t use hot water as it can dry out the skin.

After cleansing and misting skin, it is important to apply a face serum. Facial serums are great for thirsty skin as they can help to lock in even more moisture to really help against dryness from within.
Our multi-award winning Hyaluronic Serum 200 contains 200mg of Hyaluronic Acid per 30ml bottle. But don’t be scared off by the use of the word acid - Hyaluronic Acid is proven to hydrate the skin from within. It can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water so it is great for extra hydration.
You can apply this directly onto your face and neck to reveal hydrated and plumped skin. For a formulation specifically designed for the thinner skin around the eyes, you can even opt for our Hyaluronic Eye Complex.

A common misconception is that SPFs are a summer only product, but if you live where the sun is shining, the same harmful rays are still reaching your skin. If it’s been snowing recently, you also might have the UV rays working overtime reflecting back off the ground and onto your skin a second time, increasing your UV exposure. Not to mention that the clouds only block roughly 20% of the sun’s rays. Key lesson - don’t be fooled by the temperature!
To remain protected from the sun, you can use our Climate Defence Facial Cream SPF 30, specially formulated for facial skin care, protecting on a broad spectrum offering both UVA and UVB protection. It also contains Hyaluronic Acid and Prickly Pear extract to further hydrate your skin and keep it calm.
Wear a broad spectrum daily sunscreen to protect skin from UV damage
For those with visible tattoos, this SPF cream can also act as handy protection for when those parts of your face, hands or neck are exposed to the sun's rays, keeping your ink looking fresher and crisper for longer. The sun is your tattoo’s biggest nemesis, so it's great to have this on hand as a daily SPF for your tattoos. All of our products are natural and vegan friendly, so they can be used by anyone!

Menopausal Skin Saviours made with natural and organic ingredients to support your skin.
When women go into menopause, hormone levels of oestrogen, progesterone, testosterone and growth hormone drop which can cause skin changes.
Oestrogen helps to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin and also the production of Hyaluronic Acid and Ceramides as well as somewhat protecting against ageing due to UV damage¹. When oestrogen levels drop it can cause skin ageing, wrinkles, loss of firmness, skin thinning, larger pores and dehydrated skin². Cellular turnover also declines in many women which makes skin more dull.
Progesterone helps to stimulate sebum production in the skin, which is why our skin glows in pregnancy when levels of progesterone are higher than usual. Progesterone is also relaxing for the body and aids with sleep. In the perimenopause, progesterone levels often drop before oestrogen. This can cause skin to be drier and more sensitive. Low progesterone can also cause problems with sleep which can affect skin.
We’ve got lots of solutions for these issues coming up so read on to find out more about how you can support your skin throughout menopause and also help with any sleep issues.
Flushing is common in 75% of menopausal women, and this is known to exacerbate rosacea although the exact relationship is unknown.
Reduction in the skin’s barrier function can lead to an increase in eczema and itchy redness prone skin in menopausal women.
Having low progesterone in relation to oestrogen (which happens in early perimenopause) can also cause an excess of androgens and testosterone, which can sometimes cause acne and skin breakouts³.
Choosing the right products can make a real difference to skin, and how it looks and feels during the menopause. Here are my recommendations on the key tactics you should use to help improve your skin during the menopause:
As skin can age rapidly when hormone levels drop, look for skin care formulated for mature skin that helps replenish collagen and elasticity and firm and lift the skin. To avoid ageing, also look for products that can protect the skin from UV damage and environmental stress.
As cellular turnover decreases during menopause, look for skincare designed to enhance cellular turnover and boost skin radiance.
As the skin’s barrier layer is often disrupted during menopause, making the skin drier and more sensitive, use skincare designed to replenish the skin’s barrier and rehydrate the skin.
Here are my recommendations for the best active ingredients you should look for in menopause skincare:
Hyaluronic Acid is naturally produced in the skin as one of the building blocks of skin and can hold over 1000 times its weight in moisture. When menopause happens, Hyaluronic Acid levels in the skin drop. We can replenish Hyaluronic acid levels in the skin to boost skin hydration levels.
Peptides are small components of proteins that can stimulate collagen and improve skin elasticity to make skin look more youthful and reduce the appearance of wrinkles. At Evolve Organic Beauty we use several clinically proven peptides which come from natural sources such as Sacha Inchi seeds and coconut. We also use a patented Amino Acid which has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, lift and firm the skin.
Cellular turnover drops in menopause which can cause skin to look dull. Bio-Retinol can help to improve cellular turnover, improve skin firmness and reduce dark spots. Bio-Retinol is a natural plant based alternative to Retinol which does not cause skin irritation. At Evolve Organic Beauty we use two Bio-Retinols from Bidens pilosa and Bakuchiol which are clinically proven to help with cellular turnover, radiance and age spots.
Soothing ingredients like the medicinal mushroom Chaga and the amino acid Ectoin help to soothe irritated skin, reduce redness and support healthy circulation and rosacea prone skin.
Avoid any irritating ingredients such as synthetics and choose natural ingredients. I also recommend avoiding using synthetic fragrances as these can both be irritating and can affect hormone levels because they act as hormone mimics in the body.
Look for ingredients that can help to replenish the skin’s protective barrier layer which can be weaker during menopause. Ceramides are clinically proven to reduce water loss in the skin and replenish the skin’s barrier layer. Prebiotics can also help to rebalance the friendly bacteria on the skin’s surface that contribute to the skin barrier layer.
If you are suffering from hormonal acne, look for products with Salicylic Acid which can help to remove clogs, balance bacteria and soothe redness.
Choose a mild face cleanser which does not strip the skin of moisture or irritate.
My favourite is the Evolve Organic Beauty Gentle Cleansing Melt which is nourishing for sensitive menopausal dry skin.
After cleansing, try using a water based hydrating mist to cool down flushed skin and boost hydration. Our Daily Defence Moisture Mist contains soothing prickly pear extract which can help with flushing and hyaluronic acid to add moisture to dry menopausal skin. It also helps to replenish the skin’s barrier layer with prebiotic Chicory Extract.
I like to use a range of different serums to meet my menopausal skin’s needs. I often layer my serums on top of eachother and also vary them depending on the season and how my face feels.
I start with the Hyaluronic Serum 200 which helps to restore Hyaluronic Acid in the epidermis and help plump dehydration lines. Every 30ml bottle has 200mg of concentrated natural Hyaluronic Acid blended with organic Rosewater and Pomegranate extract.
Next I like to use a collagen boosting serum. At the moment I am loving our new Age Defying Lifting Serum which contains anti ageing Peptides and glycoproteins which help to boost collagen production and elasticity, lift and firm and reduce the appearance of wrinkles.
To replenish my skin barrier layer in the winter or when my face feels dry, I like to use our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum. This helps to reduce dry skin with natural ceramides and olive squalane.
Rosehip Miracle oil is another of my favourite face oils. It has a beautiful lightweight texture and is made with Organic Rosehip oil and Nigella oil, which help to nourish menopausal dry skin and reduce irritation.
It is important to choose a moisturiser that will hydrate, restore and avoid water loss. I’ve created a series of natural and organic face creams that do just this. Here are my recommendations for the best moisturisers for menopausal skin:
Multi-Peptide 360 Anti-Ageing Cream is a rich moisturiser suitable for daily use on the face and neck for nourishing dry, menopausal skin.
Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream effectively calms and soothes sensitive skin prone to redness, in a lightweight fragrance-free cream. It contains soothing Ectoin and Chaga mushroom to support redness prone, rosacea prone skin.
Our night cream the Nightly Renew Facial Cream not only contains the renewing benefits of Bio-Retinol from Bidens pilosa, it also helps detoxify while you sleep and contains a fragrance proven to improve sleep quality to help you wake looking rested and refreshed.
To protect menopausal skin it is important to choose products made with ingredients that guard against UV, blue light and pollution. I recommend wearing a broad spectrum daily sunscreen. I formulated our Climate Defence Facial Cream SPF 30 to give a high level of UVA and UVB protection, as well as hydrating the skin thanks to natural Hyaluronic Acid.
In the perimenopause, progesterone levels often drop first which can cause sleep disruptions and that can have a knock on effect on the skin.
Using a nourishing night cream for the face and neck can help revitalise skin. As I often experience sleep disruption, I designed our Nightly Renew Facial Cream to include a natural fragrance proven to improve sleep quality and to help you fall asleep more quickly. It has helped me and my skin have a good night’s sleep.
Finding the right products to give you healthy, gorgeous skin is important at any age, but especially when we go through key life changes.. I’m in my mid 40’s now and I’m really interested in how changing hormones impact my skin and overall wellbeing. I wanted to share how menopause affects our skin and what we can do to help it look and feel its best. I’ve created a series of natural and organic skincare products designed to support your skin during menopause which I will share with you in this blog.

]]>Whether you’re used to using a cleansing balm, or a cleansing micellar water, this blog will teach you the best double cleansing routine for your skin type and why it’ll be your new go-to technique. Feel free to skip through to the specific topics below:
What is double cleansing?
Why should I double cleanse?
How to double cleanse
Upgrade your double cleansing routine with our collection of natural and organic cleansers.
Double cleansing is a skincare technique that is quite simply cleansing your face…twice. This thorough cleansing method is thought to have originated in Japan, as a way to remove the traditional heavy white make up before cleansing the skin beneath.
If you want to try double cleansing, then you’ve come to the right place. Double cleansing helps to remove any external factors, such as makeup, before actually cleansing your skin, allowing the second cleanse to more deeply penetrate pores and thoroughly clean.
Makeup is often formulated to stay put on our skin through thick and thin: it can be gym-, tear-, and water-proof. That means that sometimes it’s not properly washed away by one quick swipe of cleanser.
Use a cleansing oil in your double cleansing routine.
Our Kalahari Dream Cleanser is suitable for normal/combination skin - £20
Additionally, it’s not only heavy makeup that sticks around: stubborn SPF and air pollution can both also clog pores, and lead to your skin not making the most of its cleanser, or the products that follow it. Serums, treatments, and moisturisers can all just end up sitting on top of your skin without penetrating properly unless the skin is cleansed deeply enough beforehand.
When it comes to double cleansing, the first cleanse is traditionally oil-based using a cleansing oil, like our Kalahari Dream Cleansing Oil. While this is an obvious choice in terms of removing makeup, especially the waterproof kind, it can seem a bit odd to reach for an oil when you’re struggling with oily skin. This is down to experience with certain types of oil, however, and there are a variety that break down stubborn oils and products without stripping the skin, allowing the cell membrane to remain intact, and moisturising as it goes.
If you would rather try an oil based cleansing balm for your first cleanse, our Gentle Cleansing Melt contains baobab oil, which has impressively high levels of vitamins A and C, as well as antioxidants, which protect the skin from damage from free-radicals. These features mean skin’s elasticity is improved, cell turnover is encouraged, and existing cells are helped to heal effectively.
The second cleanser can move from an oil-based face wash to water-based, depending on your skin type. If you have dry skin and are looking for a more hydrating, nourishing cleanse, you’ll be best off reaching for something that contains at least one non-comedogenic oil. It can be the exact same cleanser as you used for the first cleanse, if that’s what works for your skin! However, if your skin is more on the oily-combination end of the scale, you might prefer to switch to a cleanser that won’t add so much oil, but works with other nourishing ingredients. Our Daily Detox Facial Wash is water based, and gently cleanses skin without stripping it, which can lead to overproduction of oil in an attempt to rehydrate the skin.
Double cleansing is most effective at night, as the thorough routine means that pollutants accumulated during the day are washed off, and skin has a chance to recover overnight, often coated in a layer of very effective ingredients! That doesn’t mean you can skip the morning cleanse though: it’s still a good idea to wash off nighttime skincare residue, as well as prep your face for any daytime products to work their magic.
If your skin is sensitive and you really can’t face a full double cleanse, or baulk at the idea of washing your face twice daily, there is an easy option: try a cleansing micellar water instead. A quick swipe of our Deep Clean Micellar Water will rid skin of the worst of any surface dirt or residue, so works well pre-cleanse or post-sleep. If you ask us, this is best used in conjunction with another cleanser, so that your skin gets a deep cleanse every once in a while at least, but it is a great lazy-day fix, and perfect for swiping across skin on busy mornings!
Using Hyaluronic Acid topically, as a serum or cream, is scientifically proven to help improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
In this guide, our founder Laura Rudoe answers all your questions about Hyaluronic Acid and skincare, and shares the best way to benefit from this hydration hero for your skin needs.
This blog will answer the question of "What is Hyaluronic Acid?" amongst many others, and discuss its properties and benefits for the skin. Feel free to skip through to the specific topics below:

You might assume that Hyaluronic Acid is one of the skincare acids, like BHA’s, AHA’s and Glycolic, that exfoliate and increase cell turnover.
But it’s not. While it does leave your skin plumper and looking nicely ‘glowy’, it has quite a different way of doing so.
It’s actually not an ‘acid’ at all. Instead, Hyaluronic Acid is a gel-type sugar-based molecule that can hold a huge amount of water - up to 1000x its own weight to be precise.
It’s a humectant (an ingredient that pulls moisture from the air around it into the skin). This makes it perfect for the job of hydrating the skin’s surface.
Despite the name, Hyaluronic Acid is a very gentle ingredient, which can be used by those with eczema-prone or sensitive skin.
It’s so gentle in fact, that we use it in our Hyaluronic Eye Complex, which targets skin concerns around the delicate eye area. It plumps and smooths out wrinkles, whilst gently hydrating the skin around the eyes, which are one of the area’s most prone to dryness.

One of the things that makes Hyaluronic Acid so effective for skincare, is that it’s naturally synthesised by the body. It can be found in the skin, tendons, and aortic walls.
Around 50% of Hyaluronic Acid that is naturally found in your body is in your skin, where it works to speed up tissue repair by boosting cell metabolism, forming a gelatinous layer around cells.
However, as we age, the amount we store in our bodies decreases - by the age of 50, it’s possible that your body’s Hyaluronic Acid reserves will have decreased by 50%.
This is one of the reasons that our skin tends to become drier and duller as we get older, as new skin cells are not being produced as quickly.
Because of this, we may start to look for external sources of Hyaluronic Acid, to ‘top up’ our natural reserves.
You certainly don’t need to wait until you see the signs of ageing to get started either, it’s great for skin of all ages.
Hydration isn’t the only benefit that this wonder molecule offers.
Hyaluronic Acid can help to protect the skin from UVB radiation, which in turn prevents sunspots, wrinkles, and skin damage. We use two different kinds - low and very low molecular weight.
Whilst low molecular weight is more than sufficient for hydration, very low molecular weight penetrates deeper into the skin’s layers and is more effective for pro-ageing.
It not only forms a protective layer on the skin, but also battles free radicals caused by ultraviolet (UV) light exposure. This means that free radicals don’t get the chance to attack your skin, leaving it calmer, clearer, and with fewer imperfections.
Knowing this led me to create one of my all time favourite products, Daily Defence Moisture Mist.
We designed it to be spritzed on for a dose of protecting ingredients, including Hyaluronic Acid, that leave your skin supported against the outside world, and looking refreshed and glowing.
“Use this in the mornings as a toner. Beautiful. My skin feels soft and so ready for my skincare. Great to set your makeup and ideal to spritz throughout day to refresh makeup” Jackie, Evolve Customer
Leave it in the fridge and it’s the ideal summer hydration hero. It’s also great for helping protect against the effects of pollution, responsible for most signs of premature skin ageing.
Hyaluronic Acid does not add moisture to the skin. Imagine your skin like a sponge. If you fill it full of water, it’ll be plump and squishy. If you leave it to dry out though, it’ll soon return to scratchy and dry.
Hyaluronic Acid basically works like the water in a sponge, plumping and drawing in moisture from the air. It doesn’t ADD moisture to the skin, just hydration. If you stop using it, you’ll stop seeing the benefits.
Hyaluronic Acid helps to lock moisture into the skin and therefore helps the skin be more hydrated.
Moisturisers and oil based serums contain oils that help to repair the skin barrier layer that seals the moisture into the skin and stops it evaporating.
Most people (unless they have very oily skin) need more hydration as well as oil.
Put the water based hydrating serum on first to help it travel deeper into the skin and then apply the oil based serum on top, then the cream to seal in the moisture.

Many Hyaluronic Acid molecules are too big to penetrate the skin’s surface. Firstly, that’s not a bad thing. The acid creates a protective film, improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Our organic Hyaluronic Serum 200 is, however, slightly different; the lower molecular weight of the Hyaluronic Acid we use means it can penetrate deeper into the skin, which in turn means that skin is hydrated more efficiently.
It also aids skin’s collagen production, which helps to keep skin elastic and bouncy, and so gives a more youthful look to your appearance.
We use 200mg of Hyaluronic Acid per 30ml bottle!
“Hyaluronic Acid really is a skin saviour for dry skin”. Shona, Evolve Customer
Doctors, dermatologists sometimes use Hyaluronic Acid as a degradable filler, due to how harmoniously it works with the body’s natural functions.
They may add it to cheeks, lips and under the eyes to decrease the signs of ageing, but you don’t need to get injections to reap its benefits.
Just choose a serum that contains Hyaluronic Acid.
Hyaluronic Acid is safe for use by all skin types.
Yes. It won’t over-saturate oilier skin because it regulates how much moisture the skin needs, in fact it can reduce over production of oil by re-balancing the skin’s need for hydration.
It also has natural calming properties, so if you suffer from breakouts or redness, it will soothe your skin whilst moisturising it. Our True Balance Lotion is designed for oily, breakout-prone skin, and uses Hyaluronic Acid to deliver a dose of non-greasy hydration, whilst the other superstar ingredients work their magic to balance oil production and keep skin calm.

Yes, sensitive skins and those with conditions like Eczema and Rosacea can use Hyaluronic Acid with no concerns about reactivity. In fact, one recent study found that when combined with Proteoglycan and Collagen, it contributes to the restoration of the skin's surface and a reduction in itching and sensitivity.

Absolutely.
One 2014 study saw participants applying topical Hyaluronic Acid in a number of ways, including as a lotion, serum, and cream. The study results demonstrated an increase of skin hydration of up to 96% after 8 weeks of use across the different types, no matter how it was delivered.
It helps the skin maintain moisture and can even reduce inflammation and soreness by supporting the skin’s natural healing process (reducing skin cracking from dryness), as evidenced in a 2016 study.

When a person ages, they lose elasticity and definition in the skin. The skin becomes less smooth, and the texture becomes rougher, with fine lines becoming more prominent.
Firstly, regular use of a good Hyaluronic Acid serum helps to protect the skin from free radicals and pollution, reducing the early signs of ageing.
Studies also found that Hyaluronic Serum can help reduce the roughness of a person’s skin and increase skin elasticity, effectively turning the clock back. This effect, whilst not permanent, is significant.
Another 2014 study saw participants applying Hyaluronic Acid topically, twice daily, for eight weeks.
They showed a 40% decrease in the depth of wrinkles and an up to 55% increase in skin firmness and elasticity compared with participants who did not apply the acid.

It depends on the skincare you’re using.
Moisturisers and serums are two of the most common forms of Hyaluronic Acid.
Hyaluronic Acid works well with most common skin care ingredients, even acid-based ones.
I recommend applying Hyaluronic Acid twice a day, morning and night.
You can see results immediately from your serum or cream, but they will wear off. As with most types of skincare, the best results are usually seen within four to six weeks of consistent use.
In a word – yes!
Because Hyaluronic Acid is synthesised by the body, it can be increased by eating certain foods.
There is some evidence that starchy root vegetables might boost production: think potatoes and sweet potatoes, as well as Jerusalem artichokes. These are all also great sources of fibre, potassium, and a variety of vitamins, so it won’t do you any harm to include them in your diet!
If you fancy something a bit more refreshing, reach for a citrus fruit: they contain naringenin, which prevents Hyaluronic Acid from breaking down in the body. Fruits containing high levels of naringenin include oranges, bananas, grapefruits, and tomatoes - so pick a favourite to snack on.
Your skin will be glowing and supple in no time!
Lastly, unsurprisingly, leafy greens make the list. They contain magnesium, which aids the body’s Hyaluronic Acid production.
Get sipping on a spinach-filled smoothie or add some kale crisps to your lunchbox. Alternatively, avocados are also high in magnesium, as are certain nuts, fruits, and seeds.

]]>Serums are a great addition to any skincare routine, designed to be easily absorbed and produce fast acting, visible results with only a small amount of product. Unlike moisturisers and other creams and lotions, serums are designed to target, boost and repair specific skin concerns and issues, such as dull or dry skin and blemish prone or oily skin. Serums contain higher levels of those potent active ingredients that enhance the formula and help the serum to get right to work, providing results fast.
Serums are a powerful tool when it comes to skincare.
Before choosing a serum it is best to think about your skin type and what result you are looking for. Sometimes it can be beneficial to use more than one serum at a time, whether it's to give your skin an all over boost or to help balance combination skin, as different areas of your face may have different needs or issues.
One of the reasons that people may use a serum is to get age defying benefits. Serums can contain powerful clinically proven ingredients that help with signs of ageing, such as Argireline ™ Amplified Peptide to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, Peptides to boost collagen production and Vitamin C to brighten and even out skin tone. Due to the specific nature of serums, there are different options depending on your skin's age and what solutions you may be looking for.
Serums can also be used to help improve or repair the skin’s barrier layer, working to boost the overall health of the skin whilst protecting it from both internal and external factors as well as controlling oily and blemish prone skin and providing hydration.
Hydration:
If you are looking to boost hydration in your skin, our Hyaluronic Serum 200 is the ideal way to plump, smooth, and lock in moisture. Hyaluronic Acid can hold up to 1000 times its weight in water, and it is a natural constituent of skin. However as we age, the natural production of Hyaluronic Acid in our skin slows, which is why using a Hyaluronic Acid serum is a great way to boost production and give your skin the hit of hydration it needs.
Our Hyaluronic Serum 200 is suitable for all skin types - £32
Age Defying:
First signs of ageing:
Our Bio Retinol + C Booster is a great product to have when it comes to tackling the first signs of ageing. This powerful serum contains two clinically proven ingredients, Vitamin C and Bakuchiol, that will help boost radiance and protect the skin from signs of ageing as well as improving cellular vitality and turnover.
Vitamin C has been proven to boost the production of collagen within the skin. Our oil-based Vitamin C is more absorbable than regular Vitamin C and is converted and activated once it is on the skin.
Bakuchiol, a natural source of Bio-Retinol, has been clinically proven to improve the appearance of wrinkles and boost cellular renewal making it a great asset to any age defying skincare product. Together these ingredients help to prevent and defend against the first signs of ageing.
Our Bio Retinol + C Booster is suitable for all skin types - £28
Early Ageing:
While dullness and lack of firmness in the skin can appear at any time for many reasons, they are often associated with ageing. A serum with Peptides can help brighten, smooth and visibly rejuvenate skin, protecting it against further damage.
Our Peptide 360 Face Serum contains clinically proven firming Peptides that help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, as well as organic Maca, which works to boost brightness and skin luminosity whilst reducing the appearance of age spots and uneven skin tone. This is a great all-rounder for helping to prevent visible signs of ageing as well as reducing any that may be appearing.
Our Peptide 360 Serum is suitable for Normal/Dry Skin - £44
Visibly Ageing:
If you are beginning to notice lack of definition and sagging in your jawline, neck and face it may be time to introduce more powerful peptides that will work to deliver a lifting and firming effect.
Our new Age Defying Lifting Serum is formulated with 12% of powerful actives including peptides and collagen-boosting ingredients that thrive in freezing conditions to deliver non-invasive, instant and long lasting firming and lifting results for visibly younger-looking skin.
These include Argireline™ Amplified Peptide, which has been clinically proven to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, and two glycoproteins sourced from the deep sea; Reunion Island Marine Active (also known as Sirtalice™) that helps to provide a v-shape lifting effect along the jawline and Antarcticine™ Marine Ingredient that works to boosts the production of collagen.
This new serum has been shown to deliver significant results with up to a 43% reduction in wrinkle volume.*
*Clinically tested on 29 consumers using the product twice a day for 28 days.
Our Age Defying Lifting Serum is suitable for all skin types - £54
Barrier Repair Serum:
Facial serums designed to repair and protect the skin barrier are a great tool when it comes to improving your skin's ability to lock in and retain moisture.
Our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum contains naturally derived ceramides, which are types of lipids (fats) that help to strengthen the skin’s natural barrier and boost hydration whilst helping to prevent loss of skin elasticity and firmness. This serum also contains Blue Tansy, an ingredient known to calm and reduce inflammation, redness and irritation, as well as plant-based Squalane, an olive oil derived emollient proven to be an exceptional natural hydrator, that is naturally produced by your skin until your mid-20’s. This serum is a great option if you are looking for a way to nourish and repair the barrier layer of dry and sensitive skin to help it relax and calm down.
Our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum is suitable for Dry/Sensitive skin - £36
Our certified organic Rosehip Miracle Oil contains pure, organic Rosehip Oil that helps to strengthen and reinforce the skin barrier as well as boost cell regeneration, to reveal healthy, glowing skin. This means that it helps to improve the appearance of scars and reduce the presence of hyperpigmentation over time as the skin regenerates. Rosehip Oil is also beneficial when it comes to blemish prone skin, as its linoleic acid content can help to rebalance sebum production, resulting in calmer skin.
Our Rosehip Miracle Oil is suitable for all skin types - £30
Blemish treatment and oil control:
Oily skin, especially an oily T-zone, and active breakouts can be tricky to control, however with the right serum, such as our Salicylic Rescue Serum you can prevent and treat them easily. Blemishes are caused by three main factors: a skin blockage made up of dead skin cells, overproduction of oil, and an imbalance of skin bacteria. Our Salicylic Rescue Serum helps to work on all three of these areas.
Salicylic Acid is a natural exfoliant, and because it is oil-based, it can be more easily absorbed into the pore to exfoliate from within. It is naturally derived from Willow Bark, and possesses natural anti-inflammatory properties that can help to reduce the appearance of redness and irritation.
This serum also contains a rainforest blend of Acai, Copaiba and Andiroba that reduces the appearance of blemishes and balances oil production by decreasing the production of excess sebum.
Our Salicylic Rescue Serum is suitable for Oily/Blemish prone skin - £25
What order should I apply serums?
Each serum will have its own usage instructions, but as serums are designed to penetrate the epidermis, it is important that you apply them before your moisturiser which is designed to provide a protective layer to the top of your skin.
How do I layer serums?
Water-based serums are lighter and quickly absorbed by the skin, making them the ideal serum to use first. For example, our Hyaluronic Serum 200 would be applied first, then emulsion based serums such as our Age Defying Lifting Serum followed by any oil based serums such as our Bio Retinol + C Booster or our Rosehip Miracle Oil.
Allow a few seconds between each application so that each serum is able to absorb fully before you move on to the next step in your routine. Applying your serums in this order will allow for maximum absorption of each product.
Layering serums can help achieve two different goals with all over application. For example, our Glass Skin Bundle contains our Hyaluronic Acid serum to help plump and hydrate the skin as well as our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum to restore and soothe dry and sensitive skin. These products work together to give your skin a dewy complexion that is so luminous it looks just like glass.
Our Glass Skin Bundle is suitable for all skin types - £54
You can also use separate serums in different areas, or zones, of your face. It isn’t uncommon to suffer from breakouts or an oily T-zone and only need to apply blemish serum or treatments such as our Salicylic Rescue Serum to the affected areas. Or, you may suffer from dry or dull cheeks and want to use a hydrating serum such as our Hyaluronic Serum 200 to brighten, nourish and lock in moisture.
Serums can also be added as a booster to our moisturisers, for those in a hurry or on the go, our Bio Retinol + C Booster and Rosehip Miracle Oil are created with this in mind and mix perfectly with our moisturising products.
Serums are often fast acting, delivering visible results almost immediately, however, with continued use serums can provide long term, visible solutions for your skin.
They work to provide visibly firmer, smoother and refreshing results to the outer layer of skin while working deeper in the skin to combat the tougher, underlying skin issues and concerns, which is why continued and consistent use is key to getting the best and most visible results.
When our Hyaluronic Serum 200 was tested by a panel of 51 people for four weeks, 70% agreed that their skin looked and felt smoother and 87% agreed that their skin looked and felt more hydrated.
Facial serums can be a great resource when it comes to caring for your skin. They are a fast acting, lightweight powerhouse that gives you quick and visible results. Making sure that your serums suit your needs and are being applied and used in the most effective way is the key to getting the best results possible and helping you to combat your skin concerns.

As the owner and founder of Evolve Beauty, I understand that struggle just as much as the next person, which is why I have committed myself to creating effective, high-quality products that are designed to improve your skin without subjecting it to any harsh chemicals or ingredients.
It was really important to me, when starting this journey, to focus on creating products that are going to help in the long-term as well as the short-term. I didn’t want my products to help for a day just to create issues later down the line. Using natural and organic ingredients has definitely helped with not only that, but also making the products suitable for more skin types and conditions, such as oily or sensitive skin.
Coming into summer and the warmer months I wanted to make sure that we had products that could nourish and protect skin without clogging pores or creating too heavy of a layer on the face. To help you get prepped and ready for summer, I’ve put together a summer collection that will help nourish and protect your skin and stay hydrated in the sun!
This collection has come to include everything from moisturisers to serums and even our new SPF 30 cream. Whilst not necessarily limited to just summer use, these products will definitely help your skin survive the heat and sun.

Moisturisers can also help with a variety of other skin issues and concerns depending on the type of moisturiser and what it is designed to assist with. With so many different types of moisturisers available on the market today, it’s important to find one that works for your specific skin type and addresses any issues or needs your skin may have.
We all know the basics of what moisturiser supposedly does and how it is meant to help our skin, but a lot of people still wonder if it is truly necessary in a day-to-day routine. Moisturisers are an important part of any skincare regimen as they help to hydrate the skin as well as assist in maintaining the skin's natural protective barrier and keep dryness, wrinkles and fine lines at bay whilst helping with any underlying skin concerns.
Moisturising is one of the most common steps in a skincare routine, and for many moisturising is often their whole routine. Moisturisers are great all-round products that not only hydrate and repair skin but help protect it from further contaminates such as dirt, grease or make-up.
The strength, effect and purpose of a moisturiser depend a lot on the ingredients, and it’s intended result. A good moisturiser will contain natural ingredients that will work towards helping your skin with no harsh or counterproductive ingredients.
Moisturisers come in many forms and understanding what you skin needs is vital.
You may have just assumed that moisturiser was moisturiser, and the different types didn’t make much of a difference in the end, however that couldn’t be further from the truth.
From the different forms they can take to the wide range of ingredients, most moisturisers are designed with a specific outcome or solution in mind. Every moisturiser is designed with a purpose in mind, that ranges from simply hydrating and protecting to helping with oily or blemish prone skin or assisting with sensitive skin issues. If your moisturiser has been leaving you with oily, red or irritated skin, then it may be worth shopping around and discovering what works best for your skin.
By using natural and organic ingredients when possible you will help give your skin the treatment it deserves. Some of the ingredients we use in our moisturising products include a range of Peptides from Coconut to Moringa, which help to protect the skin’s collagen fibres and help to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines as well hydrating and soothing the skin. We also use Hyaluronic Acid, which is a molecule with a gel like consistency which exists naturally in our bodies. Hyaluronic Acid is mainly known for its hydrating qualities, but can also help to plump fine lines and wrinkles for younger looking skin.
There are many natural and organic ingredients that will help you with your skin care goals and assist in soothing and healing any skin issues you may have. It just takes finding the right product to suit you.
Working out what will help your skin can be quite a challenge if you don’t know where to start. There are plenty of resources that can help you figure out what it is you need for your skin care journey such as our skin quiz that can help you find the products that will help you to reach your goals. We also offer a free online skincare consultation for those who want a more in-depth analysis.

Having a well-balanced and effective skincare routine doesn’t necessarily require a 10 step daily routine with more products than you can count. It can be as simple or as complex as you want or need it too, the main goal should always be the health and wellbeing of your skin.
Your skincare routine should reflect what your skin wants and needs and should evolve with your skin and change as it does. Just because something works now, it does not necessarily mean that it will always work. Being aware of your skin and how it changes in response to time, weather and your health is an important part of caring for your skin.

Cleansers are a key first step in any skin care routine. They help remove dirt, sweat, and oil from the skin while also providing other benefits such as restoring natural pH balance and soothing irritation. With so many cleansers available on the market today, it can be difficult to know which one is best for your specific needs.
Cleansers are such an important step in any skincare routine because they effectively remove dirt, dead skin cells, bacteria, and excess oils from the skin. When these impurities build up on the skin over time, it can lead to clogged pores, breakouts, and other skin irritations. Cleansers help keep your pores clear by removing dirt and oils that can become trapped in them over time. This is done through a combination of surfactants, which are molecules that act like tiny brushes to dislodge and break down dirt, oils, and other debris. Our products use only natural surfactants to better help and improve your skin's health combined with natural and organic ingredients to give your skin the best care. The surfactants will also help keep your skin from drying out after use, this also helps when it comes to skin hydration.
The ingredients used in skincare can greatly effect how the product reacts to your skin and sometimes it can be difficult to know exactly what those ingredients are and what they do. We always aim to use only natural and organic ingredients that are going to give you the results you want, without damaging your skin with harsh synthetic ingredients - and our cleansers are no different.
Knowing what each cleanser does is vital to knowing how it will effect your skin.
Finding the right cleanser to suit your skin can be a little daunting and even overwhelming with the number of products available and all the variations in textures.
With so many different types of cleansers on the market, it can be difficult to know which one is best for you and your specific needs. The key to finding the right cleanser is understanding your skin type and what it needs. Different skin types have different needs, so it’s important to find a cleanser that works with yours specifically. For example, if you have oily skin, you may need a cleanser that helps remove or prevent excess oil without stripping away all of the natural oils your skin needs. On the other hand, if you have dry or sensitive skin then using an oil-based cleanser can help add moisture back into your complexion and help nourish and soothe your skin. Doing some research before selecting a product will ensure you get the most out of each cleansing session.

]]>Body Oils are the lightweight, soothing and replenishing alternatives to heavy lotions and moisturisers.
]]>Moisturise and move on? Not anymore! Our skin is the largest organ we have and more often than not we tend to take it for granted until it begins showing signs we don’t like, ageing, dullness, dry skin etc. A comprehensive skincare routine will usually include a combination of cleansers, toners, moisturisers and creams, however when it comes to the rest of our bodies, most people will simply moisturise and move on, focusing more on the face.
We have decided to add a new addition to the body care routine, to help our customers give their skin a little extra love and attention to improve their skin quality and achieve firmer, younger looking skin all over!
Body Oils are a great alternative to heavy lotions and moisturisers.
Body oils are quickly becoming a popular and crucial step in skincare routines thanks to their ability to not only nourish and moisturise the skin but also reduce fine lines and wrinkles, leaving the skin with a lovely healthy glow. A good body oil will be an all over treatment that helps to penetrate the skin deep down and lock in hydration, leaving skin feeling supple, smooth, and noticeably refreshed from your toes to the tips of you fingers and everything in between often with the added benefit of a lovely natural scent.
Body oils are universal and almost anyone can use them regardless of skin type. For those with a drier skin type who are prone to eczema or rosacea can find relief with a natural organic body oil where their skin may naturally produce less oils that others, they help to lock in and retain moisture whilst replacing the oils the skin may be struggling to produce. For other types of skin, the addition of nourishing body oils is just another great way to give attention to areas of the body that are often neglected. They are also a simple and effective way to upgrade your self care routines and pamper yourself!
Body oils are also a great tool for anyone who struggles with dry skin, signs of ageing and dull skin, and are perfect for those who work in dry air-conditioned offices and buildings to those who work outdoors or in a more labour-intensive role, clearing away impurities and the days build up and providing relief and nourishment.
Some of the many benefits to incorporating a body oil into your everyday body care and skincare routine include:
The addition of body oil is a great, affordable way to bring a much-needed spa-experience to your home. Simply massaging into the skin will bring instant relaxation and relieve the body of tension and the stress of the day as it absorbs in, whilst giving your skin the boost and benefits it needs to keep you looking good and feeling fresh.
Body Oils can help with the appearance of stretchmarks, wrinkles and dry skin.
Knowing what the different ingredients do and what that means for you can be quite the challenge when it comes to adding a new product into your skincare or body care routine. Which oils are best for dry skin? Do I need a nourishing body oil? What does hyaluronic acid and bio retinol even do?
Natural ingredients such as Rosehip Oil, Bidens Pilosa and Bio Retinol will greatly benefit your skin especially when combined with other organic, natural ingredients and essential oils to create an all-round moisturising, smoothing treatment and comfortable body oil.
Body oils such as our ‘Timeless Renewal Bio Retinol Body Oil’ are made with natural and organic nourishing ingredients to ensure you get the best results. With Hyaluronic Acid, Bidens Pilosa and Bio Retinol working hard to give your skin the treatment it deserves and organic Rose Geranium, Ylan Ylang and Mandarin oils to leave you smelling heavenly all day with just a few drops, it really is a key product to include in your skincare treatment and body care routine.
It can be easy to get swept up in the wave of beauty crazes that tell you what ingredients are best for you and what works; however, it can be hard to get a grasp on exactly what those key ingredients do and how they are supposed to benefit your skin and health.
So, let’s have a look at some that we find greatly beneficial and include in our own organic body oils.
An innovative active ingredient that locks moisture into the skin for long lasting hydration whilst helping to improve skin elasticity. Despite the name, Hyaluronic Acid is a very gentle ingredient, which can be used by those with eczema-prone or sensitive skin. It’s actually not an ‘acid’ at all. Instead, Hyaluronic Acid is a gel-type sugar-based molecule that can hold a huge amount of water - up to 1000 times its own weight to be precise. It’s a humectant (an ingredient that pulls moisture from the air around it into the skin). This makes it perfect for the job of hydrating the skin’s surface.
This ingredient has been tested and proven to have skin calming and skin barrier improvement properties preventing Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL).
Hyaluronic acid is usually used in water-based formulations, but for our body oil we have used an oil soluble hyaluronic acid dispersion in oil for enhanced skin penetration for better activity. The small molecules of hyaluronic acid are evenly dispersed in the oil and get released into the skin nourishing it from the inside.
Rosehip Oil comes from the rosa canina rose bush, native to Chile. Unlike the essential oil Rose Oil, which is extracted directly from rose petals, Rosehip Oil is a cold pressed oil from the seeds and fruit of the plant. Rosehip Oil can be commonly known as a bio retinol as it contains biologically active tretinoin (all-trans-retinoic acid).
Due to its high fatty acid content, Rosehip Oil helps to strengthen and reinforce the skin barrier, which helps to lock in moisture. These fatty acids also help to boost cell regeneration, which not only helps to reveal health, glowing skin, but means that organic Rosehip Oil can help scars and features in products like facial oils as it can help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation over time as skin regenerates.
Additionally, it works to keep out external pollutants, keeping damage away from the deeper layers of your skin. But it doesn’t end there. Rosehip Oil is also beneficial for acne as it helps to rebalance sebum production, leading to calmer skin and fewer breakouts.
This is a great option for those who want to improve the appearance of scarring and stretch marks. Mature skin types can also benefit from rosehip oil where it can help prevent signs of ageing. Its hydrating properties means it has the ability to repair broken skin barriers and soothe irritated skin.
This sustainable plant-based alternative to Retinol from Bidens Pilosa works to smoothen and plump up skin giving the appearance of younger looking skin. It also stimulates collagen synthesis which helps to improve the look of mature skin and helps to reduce UV spots (hyperpigmentation) by 36%.
Our Bidens Pilosa active ingredient provides “retinol-like” behaviour (it acts on the same receptors as synthetic retinoids) whilst being safe for continuous use and can be used day or night. It offers skin firmness benefits whilst improving elasticity by 12%. Applied on the body, it provides skin smoothing benefits and helps to calm skin irritation.
Take notice of the ingredients in your skincare and what benefits your skin versus what doesn't.
Using body oils is not so different to applying lotion or moisturiser after a shower. The thought of adding another step to your routine can sometimes deter people from trying new products, but with body oils it’s simple, easy, and rewarding.
Body oils are best applied after a shower to clean, damp skin, as this can increase the effect it has on your skin, for the best results use after exfoliating. They can be used in place of a moisturiser as a lighter option and can be used interchangeably with lotions and moisturisers depending on the needs of your skin. For those who would like to double down on the hydration can use both. Use the body oil as a protective layer to lock in any previous moisturiser and it’ll be sure to leave your skin feeling soft and hydrated.
Each product will have a slightly different instruction or preferred way of applying the oil depending on the formulas used, however in most cases it’s as simple as starting with freshly cleansed and slightly damp skin, beginning at your feet with a few drops and gently working your way up, gently massaging the oil into your skin in circular motions, rather than just rubbing it in for a noticeable difference. The warmth of your hands will melt the oil as you apply it, allowing for better absorption of those key ingredients. Give extra attention to any drier areas, such as elbows and knees!
This heavenly fragranced firming body oil is the latest addition to our age defying product range, and helps to nourish, firm and rejuvenate the appearance of skin whilst improving elasticity and locking in hydration.
Retinol analogue Bidens Pilosa works to stimulate collagen synthesis and improve skin firmness. Hyaluronic Acid locks in hydration and boosts skin elasticity whilst Organic Macadamia Oil and Apricot oils come together to replenish, smooth, soft and younger looking skin. Beautifully fragranced with the scent of organic Rose Geranium, Ylang Ylang and Mandarin essential oils.

When combined with water, the natural sugar extracts gently turn the clear scrub into a creamy milk that rinses away clean, leaving skin smooth, soft and fragranced with the natural exotic tropical scent. Soap free.
How to Use: Massage onto dry skin in circular motions, paying special attention to elbows & knees. Apply warm water to transform into a rich creamy milk before rinsing away, repeat 1-2 times a week.

It is a lightweight and fast absorbing way of delivering a youthful, hydrated and smoother complexion. The added benefit of including organic essential oils into our organic and natural body oils means that you get an additional boost of relaxation and a heavenly scent without the addition of perfume agents.
Incorporating body oils into your skincare and body care routine will help in maintaining radiant, nourished, and youthful looking skin. However, it is crucial to choose an organic oil that will suit your skin type and provide the most benefits to you and your skin health.

]]>Damaged hair is an umbrella term that covers a lot of different types of hair issues, from colour damage and dry, frizzy or brittle hair, split ends, and oily strands among others.
Damaged hair will not always be obvious with a quick glance, this is why knowing how to identify and recognise the signs of hair damage can be helpful when it comes to caring for your hair health. Things such as split ends, frizzy and oily hair can be immediately identified and noticeable, whereas weak or brittle hair, breakage and dry hair can sometimes be harder to notice until it becomes much worse.
Taking the time to know your hair and learn the warnings signs for damage can be incredibly helpful when it comes to treating, preventing, and repairing hair damage.
Hair can be damaged in a number of different ways, by a number of different things. Split ends for instance occur when the protective outer layer of the hair strand is worn away, leaving the hair frayed and open to more damage.
Weakened, brittle hair can lead to breakage and can be caused by a multitude of factors, from tight hairstyles to excessive heat styling or chemical treatments such as colouring and bleaching as well as harsh shampoos and conditioners that strip away the natural oils from your scalp to improper nutrition and stress. Hair can also be damaged by over-exposure to environmental factors such as UV rays, pollution and weather, this can lead to dry, dull hair with little life.
The best way to prevent damaged hair is to keep notice of your hair and how it reacts, keep it in a style that will help protect it from outside elements and avoid causing further damage as well as being aware of what products you are using. It is best to use products that offer natural, organic protection for your hair as well as keeping it luscious and healthy.
The same logic applies to colouring and dying your hair, making sure you select dyes that are less harsh on the hair and focus on caring for your hair as well as colouring it. Hair dyes can cause a number of issues if used incorrectly or excessively, and it’s always best to find products that will help treat your hair and protect it during and after the colouring process.
The right products will not just keep it look and feeling good, they will also offer protection against outside factors that would otherwise damage hair, such as excessive sun exposure, environmental factors such as heat, pollution, and dryness and keep your hair healthy.
The hair care product you use should directly link to what you are trying to treat or prevent, if your hair is colour damaged, you wouldn’t necessarily use a product aimed at split ends or vice versa. Everyone’s hair type is unique to themselves and what works for one person may not work for others, so we expect a bit of trial and error when it comes to finding the right products to treat your hair, our aim is to make that trail stage a little easier to navigate with our range of organic and natural products designed to treat and protect hair and minimize damage.

When it comes to skincare, protecting your skin is one of the most important things you can do, especially when it comes to protecting it from the sun. The sun’s harmful UV rays can cause a variety of skin problems, including premature ageing, dehydration, wrinkles, sunburn and of course skin cancers.
One of the simplest and best ways to protect your skin from the sun is by using products with a high SPF rating in your daily routine. But what does SPF actually mean and how do you choose the right product for your skin?
Sun Protection Factor, or SPF, is a measure of how well a product can protect your skin from harmful UV rays. The SPF rating of a product is determined by measuring the amount of UV radiation required to cause sunburn on skin that has been treated with the product compared to skin that has not been.
We all know that the higher the SPF, the better and stronger the product is, that’s because the higher the SPF rating is, the more protection your skin has against harmful UVB rays. Keep in mind however that SPF only measures protection against UVB rays (shorter wavelengths), not UVA rays (longer wavelengths) that can also cause skin damage.
The best way to ensure you have complete protection for your skin is to use a suitable broad-spectrum product that offers protection against both UVA and UVB.
Protecting your skin from harsh UV rays can help prevent signs of ageing and other skin issues.
Apart from the obvious, preventing sun burn and skin cancer such as melanoma, why is using a SPF product so important? Sun exposure can cause a variety of issues, some of which are obvious and others that are more gradual.
These issues include sunburn, premature ageing and wrinkles, skin dehydration, risk of skin cancer, irritation and causing flare up of other existing skin issues that affect all skin tones. Including a SPF product in your skincare routine can help keep your skin protected throughout the day, not just when you plan to spend time extended time in the sun, those pesky UV rays are chipping away at your skin every time you’re in the sun. Regularly using SPF protects your skin and will help prevent damage and help you maintain healthy, smooth skin for longer.
Incorporating products with a sun protection factor (SPF) into your skincare routine year round is essential for ensuring you maintain healthy, youthful skin and preventing any unnecessary skin damage. Including SPF in your skincare routine doesn’t have to be slathering sunscreen on every day, it can be as simple as using a SPF product in place of moisturiser or on top of your moisturiser, to help protect your skin not just from the sun but from other external elements as well. This can be especially helpful for sensitive skin, working to reduce irritation and protect against any damaging effects.
Thanks to the innovation in skincare and sun protection there are now more and more options when it comes to SPF products, we no longer are limited to zincs and thick oily suncreams. There are many products that will easily factor into any skincare routine, and suit any skin type, that have a certified SPF, such as our broad-spectrum sunscreen, the Climate Defence Facial Cream SPF 30.
Incorporating SPF into your daily routine helps protect your skin throughout your day.
Damage from sun exposure can be reduced and repaired in many ways, however it is always best to protect and prevent damage in the beginning. The effects of excessive sunlight often go beyond the skin's surface, causing deeper and longer lasting issues. If you have pre-existing sun damage or just feel dried out and need a little boost, we have a great range of moisturisers and face creams to help combat dry or flaky skin, irritaion and more. Products such as our Daily Renew Facial Cream and our Hydrate and Protect Facial Cream are great daily use products to help give your skin a boost.
To prevent sun damage its important to include SPF products in your daily routine, to ensure your never caught out in the sun's rays without some protection. Including it in your skincare routine will also ensure it becomes second nature and you won’t forget or be caught out unaware or put your health at risk. Daily use of a broad-spectrum SPF will help protect skin and prevent any short term or long term damage.

Tanning is an incredibly popular past time, especially over here in the UK, but there is a right way and a wrong way to go about getting that lovely summer glow. One of the safer ways to tan is to gradually expose your skin to sunlight whilst using proper sun protection and avoiding tanning during peak UV hours when the sun is at its strongest. Another safe way to get that glowing golden look is to use a sunless self-tanner, to avoid those harmful UVA and UVB rays and achieve a nice even tan in less time.
The more dangerous and damaging ways to turn such as prolonged sun exposure and tanning beds can lead to multiple issues, including wrinkles, dry skin, sunspots, discolouration, cancer and more. In order to preserve and protect your skin it wiser to follow sun safety, use SPF and final alternate ways of achieving your desired tan.
By practicing safe tanning habits and avoiding excess UV radiation you can maintain healthy, smooth, and clear skin while still enjoying that sun-kissed glow.
The use of SPF (Sun Protection Factor) in your daily skincare routine can greatly benefit your skin no matter the time of year, protecting your skin from UV radiation as well as assisting the skins natural barrier and helping to give some more protection from the outside elements such as harsh winds and temperatures.
Damage from UV rays and sun exposure may not be evident straight away, this is why so many people tend to ignore the potential dangers and continue to practice unsafe UV exposure.
Treat your skin with kindness and make sure you protect it both in and out of the sun.

]]>Vitamin C is one of the most popular vitamins out there, and for good reason! This essential nutrient offers a plethora of benefits for our bodies, from boosting immunity to aiding in collagen production. In this post, we'll explore some vitamin C benefits and how it helps to keep skin healthy. Trust us, your body will thank you!
Vitamin C is a skin vitamin that is essential for skin and overall health. Vitamin C isn't just a delicious citrus addition to your diet - it is an essential nutrient that plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy skin and overall well-being. With the help of Vitamin C, you can give yourself the best chance at looking vibrant and feeling great!
Vitamin C is a powerful nutrient that plays an essential role in skin health. Fortunately, it’s easier than ever to obtain this key nutrient – vitamin C is naturally present in many foods, including citrus fruits like oranges and grapefruits, as well as vegetables such as broccoli and bell peppers and rosehips.
If you’re looking for sources of vitamin C that don’t come from food, supplements are always an option. Vitamin C supplements come in a variety of forms, so you can pick the one that works best for you and your lifestyle. With so many sources of this essential vitamin available today, everyone has the opportunity to keep their body healthy with a steady supply of Vitamin C!
Studies have shown that including Vitamin C in skin care can help reduce skin wrinkles and protect skin from sun damage. Additional benefits of Vitamin C are that it improves hydration, promotes an even skin tone, and supports the formation of collagen – all of which are beneficial in helping keep skin looking healthier and younger.
Taking advantage of the incredible benefits of vitamin c can be done with the regular, daily use of Vitamin C products such as vitamin c serums and creams.
Vitamin C is an essential part of skincare. It helps defend against harmful free radicals caused by sun exposure, pollution, skin aging and a range of skin conditions. Vitamin C promotes healthy skin by increasing skin cell turnover, encouraging collagen production and protecting skin cells from free-radical damage.
Because vitamin C contributes to the health of the skin, it is often included in top-shelf facial treatments and serums to promote youthful skin appearance. With consistent use and proper dosage, vitamin C can help the skin remain healthy and provide lasting protection from environmental factors.
Vitamin C has anti-ageing properties, as it plays a key role in collagen synthesis and skin elasticity. Collagen helps skin stay firm and elastic, thereby helping to reduce wrinkles and sagging skin and prevent premature aging.
Research has shown that vitamin C can be used to reduce uneven skin tone and unwanted dark spots, helping to make skin brighter. This is because the vitamin works to support the regeneration of new skin cells, helping to brighten skin.
Vitamin C also acts to lessen pigmentation on uneven complexions due to sun damage or environmental factors. So if you’re looking for a natural way to help improve uneven tones and give your skin some extra glow, incorporate Vitamin C into your topical skincare routine!
Vitamin C helps reduce inflammation and redness while brightening dull complexions. So while it may not give you a fairytale glow, it could be just the thing to give you a beautiful, healthy-looking complexion you feel great about.
Vitamin C is an amazing nutrient when it comes to skin health and care. It is packed with antioxidants which help to neutralize free radicals which can cause premature skin ageing.
Vitamin C can be a great way to help hydrate and keep skin plump. Vitamin C has amazing hydrating abilities, meaning when you apply it to your skin, it could potentially leave your skin feeling refreshed and looking plumper.
Plus, Vitamin C is often used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles by increasing cell turnover. So if your goal is to have healthier, smoother-looking skin, taking advantage of the vitamin c skin benefits might be just what you need!
Its anti-inflammatory properties reduce redness and irritation while also protecting against environmental damage. This can help keep your skin looking vibrant and youthful as it helps to brighten your overall complexion.
Choosing the best vitamin C skin-care product for your routine is an important step in achieving youthful, glowing skin. As you begin your search, it's important to ensure that any product you select contains the highest grade of Vitamin C available, so you get the most from its antioxidant properties. In addition, it pays to look for products specifically formulated with ingredients that can be readily absorbed into the skin for maximum effectiveness.
Although there are many high-quality products available today, we recommend doing a bit of research first and making sure the vitamin C skin-care product you purchase meets all of these key criteria before adding it to your regimen.
Choosing the best Vitamin C ingredient for your needs can be a daunting task, especially when you consider all of the forms of Vitamin C on the market. For example, Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate and L ascorbic acid are two popular forms of this powerful antioxidant, but they offer different benefits.
If you have sensitive skin, Magnesium ascorbyl phosphate may be a better option than L ascorbic acid since it's more stable and gentle than other forms.
Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is an excellent choice and it is what we use in the Evolve Organic Beauty Bio- Retinol + C Booster. It's equally as effective as L-ascorbic acid and magnesium ascorbyl phosphate, both of which are very popular forms of vitamin C, but with a much gentler effect on the skin when compared to L-ascorbic acid.
Ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate is also non-irritating and non-photosensitizing—making it the perfect choice for those looking to give their skin the protective boost that only vitamin C can provide without any of the harsh side effects.
Ultimately, it is important to research each type of Vitamin C and carefully consider your individual needs before selecting the right product.
Taking vitamin C internally helps to provide natural hydration, encourage healthy cell production, and reduce free radical damage from environmental stressors. Aim for 500mg of vitamin C daily – this could be taken in a supplement form or through foods like strawberries, oranges, and peppers.
By opting for a topical vitamin C product, you are giving yourself access to a most powerful antioxidant that helps to reduce free radicals. Not only does this help reduce signs of aging, but it can also protect your skin from oxidative damage caused by sunscreen and other environmental aggressors. With an appropriate and consistent approach to using vitamin c for skin care, you can enjoy brighter, younger-looking skin that lasts.
The Evolve Organic Beauty Enzyme + Vitamin C Cleanser Powder is a waterless and colour changing formula that cleanses your skin whilst improving radiance for the ultimate glow. It uses stable Vitamin C alongside Prebiotics to strengthen the skin barrier and Papaya enzymes to gently exfoliate for an extra brightening boost.
Vitamin C should ideally be used twice a day - in the morning and evening - for best results. You can apply vitamin C to your face using several different methods such as creams, serums, or masks - whatever suits your needs best. With consistent use of vitamin C skin care products you’ll start seeing noticeable improvements in no time!
Depending on the sensitivity of your skin and how much product you use, you may find that it's best to start by using vitamin C once or twice a week. As you observe how your face reacts, you can always increase the frequency if necessary - with regular use also comes greater results!
A great way to introduce Vitamin C into your routine is the Evolve Organic Beauty Daily Glow Bundle. This bundle contains three products, including our Enzyme + Vitamin C Cleanser Powder and Bio-Retinol + C Booster, that work together to bring you a simple, radiance boosting routine with a 20% off saving.
Use a few drops of the vitamin c serum and apply it directly onto clean skin with your fingertips. Massage gently in circular motions until completely absorbed into the skin's surface. Use this regimen every day—morning or evening—to benefit fully from its hydrating, nourishing properties.
The results will be brighter, smoother skin with improved texture and elasticity. Use regularly for long-lasting brilliance and beauty.
Pairing your Vitamin C serum with an anti ageing moisturiser such as the Evolve Organic Beauty Daily Renew Cream can help protect the skin from environmental pollutants.
In addition, combining it with a bio-retinol night cream such as the Evolve Organic Beauty Nightly Renew cream can help improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines and boost cellular renewal.
Finally, be sure to consult with your skincare professional to determine which skin care routine is most suitable for your unique skin type and goals.
Using Vitamin C for skin care can have a multitude of benefits for healthy skin. However, it is important to keep in mind that certain groups should avoid using topical vitamin C due to the potential for adverse effects.
Those with sensitive skin, rosacea, or other medical conditions are usually recommended to forego topical vitamin C in favour of other treatments. With careful consideration and/or professional advice, properly administered Vitamin C can promote healthy, glowing skin!
By now, you know that vitamin c is an important ingredient for healthy skin. And not just any old vitamin c—you want a potent form like ascorbyl tetraisopalmitate, which we use in the Evolve Organic Beauty Bio-Retinol + C Boster. Our serum is further boosted with bio retinol for maximum benefit to your skin.
If you’re looking for an effective way to improve the health and appearance of your skin, look no further than our line of products containing vitamin c. Shop now and see the difference!

Ceramides are a type of lipids (fats) that occur naturally in our skin and work to hold the skin cells together in the uppermost layer. They help to create a healthy, firm barrier and help to keep our skin clear, smooth, and rejuvenated. Ceramides also assist in keeping the skin nourished and moisturised, protecting it from moisture loss, possible skin aggressors and allergens. This means that as well as making sure you look great, Ceramides also help to actively keep your skin healthy and functioning.
Thanks to these incredible benefits and more, Ceramides are becoming an increasingly popular ingredient in natural and organic skincare.
Check in with your skin from time to time to make sure you're giving it what it needs.
Now you may be wondering, if Ceramides occur naturally then why do we need to add them into our skincare?
There are many benefits of Ceramides and whilst it is true that they are naturally occurring, the production and effectiveness can be impacted by many different factors, such as ageing, hormones, environmental influences, and many others. This can result in lower quality Ceramides being produced or simply just less and less Ceramides being made. By including Ceramides in your skincare, you can give your skin a boost and help keep it looking and feeling great.
Additional Ceramides can also give the skin a helping hand and help to combat the effects of ageing, wrinkles, dry and irritated skin that may be impacted by time, environmental factors, or hormones. Ceramides assist in the strengthening and improvement of the barrier layer or uppermost layer of skin, protecting your skin from external aggressors and irritants at the same time.
One of the many benefits of Ceramides is the fact that it is something that will help with all skin types. As Ceramides focus on the skin’s barrier layer, keeping it hydrated, protected and firm, it tends to assist with most skin types and issues. Additional Ceramides means that our skin keeps its hydration better, battling dry and oily skin, they also keep our skin protected from various allergens and aggressors, helping to calm and guard sensitive skin.
Of course, another of the benefits of Ceramides is their ability to help keep those skin cells stay firmly together, smoothing, and strengthening skin against visible signs of ageing.
Good skincare goes beyond the surface.
Incorporating a serum with Ceramides or a moisturiser with Ceramides into your skincare routine is a terrific way to introduce additional Ceramides and give your skin the boost and care it deserves. Products such as our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum and our Timeless Renewal Hand Cream are our top recommendations when it comes to introducing Ceramides into your organic skincare routine.
Our new Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum combines Ceramides with Blue Tansy, Plant-Based Squalane and Camellia Oil to soothe, hydrate and nourish skin. Using these ingredients in combination with Ceramides we are able to produce a serum that soothes inflammation and redness, prevents loss of hydration, and brings relief to dry, flaky and sensitive skin all whilst strengthening and protecting the barrier layer to help restore and nourish your skin.
How To Use: Apply 3 – 4 drops of serum onto cleansed skin and gently pat into face and neck. Use the Ceramide serum as part of both morning and evening routine and follow up with your preferred moisturiser.
Our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum is suitable for sensitive/ dry skin - £36
Looking for a moisturiser with Ceramides? Look no further than our Timeless Renewal Hand Cream, designed to reduce signs of ageing and help to repair the skin's barrier layer, leaving hands hydrated, smooth and protected. How To Use: Massage hand cream into the skin, paying close attention to any dry areas. Use daily as well as any time you feel your hands need some TLC.
Our Timeless Renewal Hand Cream is suitable for all skin types - £18
There are many benefits to Ceramides and including them in your skincare routine can only improve your skin. As well as Ceramides, there are many other natural organic skincare ingredients that would greatly benefit both your skin’s appearance and overall health when introduced to your routine. Ingredients such as Ectoin and Chaga Mushrooms can greatly benefit your skincare and leave your skin feeling healthy, rejuvenated, and refreshed without introducing any harsh chemicals or components to your skin.
Ectoin is considered an osmolyte, which means that it helps to maintain and balance the skin's hydration and moisture levels, resulting in soft, smooth, and well hydrated skin. Chaga Mushrooms bring many benefits to skincare, including betulinic acid, which supports skin growth and helps to regenerate and restore skin cells, bringing back vibrancy, youthfulness, and a natural glow. Chaga Mushrooms are also known to stimulate collagen production which leaves skin hydrated and refreshed, combatting signs of ageing and other skin aggressors.
We use both of these ingredients in our Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream for sensitive skin. Chaga mushrooms help to boost the skin's resilience whilst Ectoin and Camellia Oil help to reduce redness, protect skin, restore moisture, and bring relief to dry, flaky, and sensitive skin.
Our Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream is suitable for sensitive skin - £32
Including Ceramides in your skincare routine can increase and improve your skin protective barrier layer and help keep skin looking and feeling healthy, refreshed, and rejuvenated. Use Ceramides in conjunction with some other powerful, natural ingredients such as the Chaga Mushrooms and Ectoin in your skincare and you have skin that is glowing, refreshed, and protected from everything life throws at it.
Chaga Mushrooms are a great way to give your skin a natural boost.

Sensitive skin is often hard to deal with, especially when you consider the hyper awareness and vigilance required to ensure that the products and conditions you subject your skin to don’t end up making the pain and irritation worse.
If you want to better understand sensitive skin, look into the causes, and discover some brilliant vegan and organic skincare products that’ll help, then keep reading!
Sensitive skin is often defined as skin that is reactive to aggressors. These aggressors can be external factors such as weather and harsh skincare products or internal factors such as allergens, hormones, or medical conditions. These factors can often result in reddened, sore, itchy, and painful skin, or in some cases just feeling uncomfortable with your skin.
If you have extremely sensitive skin and it is often painful and irritated, then it is a good idea to see your doctor. They may be able to pinpoint the causes or some treatments that will help, in some cases you need certain medications to calm your skin. However, the majority of the time you will be able to soothe and treat your skin at home by adapting your skincare routine and taking the time to learn what products are gentle enough to work on your skin.
You may now be wondering ‘Do I have sensitive skin?’ There are many diverse types of sensitive skin and a wide variety of signs and symptoms to go with them, however, there are some common tell-tale signs that you may be dealing with sensitive skin.
Some of these common symptoms include your skin becoming irritated, blotchy, and red after using new products, or perhaps you experience stinging sensations on your face when it’s being washed or exposed to frigid wind or other weather conditions.
If your skin has a habit of developing rashes or becoming uncomfortable and sore when it’s introduced to adverse conditions, then it is likely that you have sensitive skin.
There are many things that may cause or result in sensitive skin.
Here are a few of the most common:
- Dry Skin: Extremely dry skin can often give way to skin sensitivities. When your skin loses too much water and oil and dries out it can begin to crack and scale. This can make skin incredibly sensitive to certain conditions and harsh ingredients.
- Rosacea: Rosacea is a common skin condition, often categorised early on by flushing or blushing in the face. This condition can often make skin sensitive and in some cases may cause burning or stinging sensations on the face.
- Stress: Stress can affect your skin in many ways. One of which being that it can affect the hormone levels in your skin and aggravate any existing sensitivities. It can also affect the effectiveness of your skincare routine, from disrupting your routine through forgetfulness or tiredness to affecting the way your skin reacts to the products.
- Allergies: If you believe that your skin is extremely sensitive you could actually be unknowingly allergic to a common ingredient that is used in your skincare routine. What you are interpreting as a sensitivity could be an allergic reaction. If you feel you have tried everything and cannot get your skin to react well or if your skin seems to calm when you are not using any products it may be worthwhile to get tested for common allergies to try to understand your skin better and be able to acknowledge and avoid any ingredients that it doesn’t like.
If you have or suspect, you may have sensitive skin then it is important to use products that are as gentle as possible. Here at Evolve Organic Beauty, our products are created using natural, organic ingredients, resulting in organic skincare products that are healthy and gentle on your skin. This is an easy organic skincare routine you can follow to try and get your skin under control, looking and feeling better.
The first step is to cleanse and tone your face. This will ensure that your face is clean of any residual products or ingredients that may be irritating your skin.
Our Cleanse and Tone Duo is a great option for this as it includes our award winning Gentle Cleansing Melt and our Daily Defence Moisture Mist. Our Gentle Cleansing Melt is an organic cleansing balm that contains nourishing Baobab Oil to soothe and hydrate your skin whilst cleaning and calming. It is also a terrific way to gently remove makeup without rubbing your skin! Simply massage into dry skin and rinse away gently with warm water.
After you have cleansed, you can go in with our Daily Defence Moisture Mist. This contains Prickly Pear to calm irritated skin, Moringa Peptides to protect skin from pollution and Hyaluronic Acid to help moisturise and hydrate your skin. This mist is perfect to spray over sensitive skin after cleansing, or to pop in your handbag to take on the go and soothe irritated skin when you’re on the move.
A facial oil or oil based serum is a fantastic addition to any skincare routine, especially once your skin is clean in order to add more moisture and soothing ingredients back into your now open pores. Our Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum contains skin barrier strengthening Ceramides alongside plant-based Squalane oil to naturally hydrate and boost skin’s glow whilst Camellia Oil and Blue Tansy restore and nourish the skin to bring relief and calm inflammation and redness.
Simply apply the Blue Velvet Ceramide Serum to your face and neck after you have cleansed and toned your skin.
Perhaps the most common step in any skincare routine - moisturiser or face cream. It’s important to feed your skin moisture and moisturisers are the most effective way, they also supply a great base if you wear makeup. For sensitive skin we recommend our Pro+ Ectoin Soothing Cream, a dermatologically tested organic moisturiser for sensitive skin that is formulated with Chaga Mushrooms, Ectoin and Camellia Oil to help reduce skin stress, restore and calm skin down whilst reinforcing the skin barrier, protecting it from sensitivity.
Apply this gently to a cleansed face and neck, it is great in the morning to refresh your skin but can also work as a night cream in the evening.
If you have, or suspect you have, sensitive skin on your face then it is likely you have skin sensitives elsewhere as well. After all, your skin is the largest organ of the human body. Changing your shower products may help with soothing and helping your body too!
If you find that changing your body wash and soap isn’t making much of a difference to how your skin reacts or feels it may be worth changing your shampoo and conditioner. As much as your hair care may be working, you must keep in mind that whatever you put in your hair inevitably washes down your body, coating your skin. Some of the products and ingredients in your shampoo, whilst working wonderfully for your hair, are too harsh for your skin and may be causing the dryness, itchiness, or other skin issues you are experiencing.
By switching to a product such as our ‘Daily Apply Hair and Body Wash’ you will be using a natural and organic product on both your hair and body. The natural Coconut and Sugar Extracts in the wash gently cleanses and maintains your skins’ natural PH balance, whilst the Organic Aloe Vera will soothe and calm your skin whilst also containing polysaccharides which form a film that protects hair when styling.
Caring for sensitive skin can sometimes feel like a challenge, avoiding certain aggressors and finding products and ingredients that work with your skin to leave it feeling healthy, nourished and calm can be difficult. However, by exploring what your skin likes and dislikes and ensuring you’re using a healthy organic skincare routine and natural products you can be certain that you are giving your skin the care and nourishment it needs and deserves.
Once you've found the right hair and body wash for your skin, it's also important to consider other factors that may affect its health. For instance, the fabric of your clothing can play a significant role. Opting for breathable materials like cotton can help reduce irritation and promote better skin health. Just as harsh ingredients in hair products can impact your skin, so too can synthetic fabrics exacerbate sensitivity. Therefore, complementing your natural skincare routine with clothing choices such as socks made of cotton can further support your skin's well-being. Taking these small but meaningful steps can make a significant difference in how your skin looks and feels, helping you achieve a healthy and radiant complexion from head to toe.
Our new Soothing Skin Bundle features three full sized products that make caring for sensitive skin easier. This sensitive skincare bundle not only saves you £19 but provides a stripped back, three-step routine that works to keep skin soothed, protected and calm all day every day.

The Spring Equinox is an annual astronomical event that marks the official start of spring in the Northern Hemisphere and autumn in the Southern Hemisphere. During this time of year, the amount of daylight and night-time are equal and it is a time for new beginnings, as nature starts to bloom again after winter and the sun's energy begins to shine more brightly. In 2023, the Spring Equinox occurs on March 20th at 6:37 PM GMT.
The Pagan festival of Ostara is celebrated each Spring Equinox and is a time of rebirth and renewal. This ancient holiday celebrates the changing of the seasons, as well as the balance between day and night. It is a joyous occasion that honors fertility, abundance and fresh beginnings.
During the Spring Equinox , the Sun enters Aries, marking the start of the new astrological year and is a powerful time for setting intentions for personal growth and transformation. As cardinal energy associated with birth and beginnings, Aries represents taking action to manifest your dreams. This can be a great time to begin new projects, make changes in your life and take risks for something you believe in. With the fire sign energy associated with Aries, it's also likely that you may feel more inspired and eager to push yourself out of your comfort zone in order to get closer to achieving your goals.
With the arrival of this new season comes a miraculous renewal of energy that compels us to embrace nature and reconnect with our environment. Start by stepping outside to thoroughly enjoy the change in weather and scenery. Appreciate nature's gifts such as bright wildflowers, delicate seashells, and colorful leaves - why not gather these lovelies up and create your very own seasonal bouquet? Make use of those lengthening daylight hours by getting out for some Vitamin D-infused walks or hikes through natural areas nearby.
Visit your local farmer's market or community garden and pick up some produce that is perfectly in season. In addition, plan an outdoor picnic in a park or wooded area so you can savor delightful dishes amongst all the beauty that surrounds. Listen to birdsong and observe wildlife around you -weave their melodies into your day as you traverse the local trails. It's time to celebrate Spring!
As the start of this new season, take time to take a step back and honor yourself with an evening ritual full of self-care. Allow your mind and body to reconnect through yoga or meditation and tap into the present moment.
Anoint your skin with natural ingredients by creating a herbal bath with essential oils, such as our Silent Night Bathing Salts made with Dead Sea salt, Epsom salt and Himalayan salt and a blend of essential oils proven to help you sleep better and wake up feeling more refreshed.
After you soak away stress, replenish and soften your skin by exfoliating with our Tropical Blossom Body Polish followed by our nourishing Super Berry Body Oil for hydration. Make this space for yourself and open yourself to its life-changing effects.
As an ancient Chinese healing practice, Gua Sha has proven to be a wonderful way to help detoxify your skin. It's performed by using a special crystal tool to massage and lift the face, neck, and décolleté which reduces puffiness and increases circulation. On top of this, it can stimulate collagen production too! To maximize these benefits even further, consider incorporating a facial oil into the ritual so the gua sha can slide easily over the skin. Try using our blue velvet ceramide serum – which helps to replenish the skin's barrier layer.
Spring Equinox is a time for a new beginning, so what better way to jumpstart the season than detoxing and nourishing your body?
Try adding liver-cleansing foods to your diet, such as garlic, celery and artichokes, which help with liver health. Incorporating seasonal ingredients like fresh fruits and vegetables will also provide your body with essential vitamins and minerals.
Finally, make sure you stay active with regular exercise; even light activities can help boost your energy levels greatly. Nourishing yourself this spring equinox can leave you feeling ready to take on whatever life throws at you.
Tea is one of the most effective and easy ways to incorporate liver-cleansing ingredients into your life. Rosemary, bay leaf and lemon are three herbs full of beneficial ingredients that can help in detoxifying the body.
Rosemary has been scientifically proven to reduce toxins from our liver and bay leaf helps with digestion.
Additionally, lemon has vitamins like vitamin C, minerals and cellular enzymes which can help keep your liver healthy. When brewed together, these herbs become even more powerful due to their unique properties. This tea can be a great way to incorporate natural cleansing into your everyday life!
Now is the perfect time to use the power of intention setting on behalf of your present and future. As we reach this Spring Equinox and the sun crosses over the equator, take some time to sit with yourself and reflect on what intention you would like to hold close for the following 12 months. Is there something you want to start? How can you prioritize it in your day-to-day life? Is there something that needs extra healing attention?
Whatever it may be, intention setting at this beautiful juncture in our year can bring a renewed focus to what brings meaning and joy into our lives. So don’t let this moment pass! Use it as an opportunity to jumpstart a habit that leads to improved well being, or just set aside some moments each day that are just for you. Start small and build upon it; intention setting will give you the opportunity to make positive changes in your life during this vibrant season.
This spring equinox season is the perfect time to start taking the steps towards a new you!
Begin your journey by decluttering and getting rid of unnecessary and outdated items in your closet or workspace. Once you've cleared out all of the chaos, it will be easier to create goals and plans for yourself that take into account your physical and mental energy.
Incorporate a healthy new routine into your weekly schedule and set aside some additional time in the day for yourself. You could use this time to pick up an exciting hobby, such as gardening or painting, that can help center your focus while bringing joy! Celebrate yourself during this equinox season as you break onto a newly paved path on the journey to becoming your best self.
The Spring Equinox is a time of renewal and rejuvenation, so make sure to use this opportunity to your advantage. Incorporate liver-cleansing foods into your diet, stay active with regular exercise, try adding facial oils and cleansing tea recipes for an extra boost in detoxifying the body. Most importantly, set intentions for yourself that will help you focus on what brings joy and meaning into our lives. Finally, don’t forget to declutter and create healthy habits that reflect who you want to be! Renewal starts from within; take charge of it now as we start anew during this beautiful season!

Are you looking for an organic skincare oil to diminish dry skin, or to balance blemish prone skin? Then organic Rosehip Oil might be for you.
Thanks to its amazing skincare benefits, it is now a key ingredient in lots of routines and products, from serums and oils to face scrubs and masks, to help fight signs of ageing and keep the skin nourished and hydrated.
This blog will answer the question of "what is Rosehip Oil?" amongst many others, and discuss its properties and benefits for the skin. Feel free to skip through to the specific topics below:
What is Rosehip Oil?
What does Rosehip Oil do?
How to use Rosehip Oil
Which skin type is Rosehip Oil suitable for?
When to use Rosehip Oil in your skincare routine
Rosehip Seed Oil comes from the rosa canina rose bush, native to Chile. Unlike the essential oil Rose Oil, which is extracted directly from rose petals, Rosehip Oil is a cold pressed oil from the seeds and fruit of the plant.
The Rosa Canina plant is native to Chile.
Rosehip Oil is a common skincare ingredient that contains high levels of essential fatty acids like linoleic acid.
It has a whole host of skincare benefits suitable to help all skin types, from dry to oily and mature skin. In fact it is probably more familiar than you think, especially if you have ever used or heard of retinol before.
Rosehip Oil can be known as a bio-retinol as it contains biologically active tretinoin (all-trans-retinoic acid). This is a naturally occurring derivative of vitamin A that binds to various retinoic acid receptors, meaning that Rosehip Oil and retinol hold all the same benefits, such as increased collagen production and cellular regeneration for smoother, brighter skin!
A great ingredient for many skincare products, Rosehip Oil is full of skin benefits. Due to its high fatty acid content, Rosehip Oil helps to strengthen and reinforce the skin barrier, which helps to lock in moisture. These fatty acids also help to boost cell regeneration, which not only helps to reveal healthy, glowing skin, but means that organic Rosehip Oil can help scars and features in products like facial oils as it can help to reduce the appearance of hyperpigmentation over time as skin regenerates.
Organic Rosehip Oil contains fatty acids which promote healthy, glowing skin.
Additionally, it works to keep out external pollutants, keeping damage away from the deeper layers of your skin. These pollutants include things like UV rays and airborne particles like smoke. Both of which provoke free radicals into attacking your skin, which causes wrinkles and other skin damage.
But it doesn’t end there. Rosehip Oil is also beneficial for acne as it helps to rebalance sebum production, leading to calmer skin and fewer breakouts.
Despite being an oil, Rosehip is known as a ‘non-greasy’ oil - so it will sink into your skin easily and not just rest on top. This means that it is great to use Rosehip Oil for your face or Rosehip Oil on your hair to help lock in moisture, repair damage and ease inflammation.
Our Rosehip Miracle Oil contains Organic Rosehip Oil to leave skin nourished and brighter.
Suitable for all skin types - £30
If you want to try using Rosehip Oil for your face, it might be a good idea to try using products that incorporate it into their formulas - such as our Rosehip Miracle Oil or Bio-Retinol + C Booster. This is a great way to introduce your skin to the nourishing oil so you can begin to see its benefits.
Whilst it is predominantly known to help dry skin by strengthening the skin barrier and locking in moisture, the linoleic acid content is great for battling breakouts so Rosehip Oil is also great for oily and blemish prone skin.
Whilst it is commonly known for helping dry skin, Organic Rosehip Oil also has great benefits for oily and blemish prone skin.
Rosehip oil is non-comedogenic, and one of the principal causes of acne is underproduction of linoleic acid in sebum. Often, this results in an excess of sebum as the skin tries to overcompensate, leading to both oily skin and breakouts. Adding an ingredient like rosehip oil into your routine therefore helps to rebalance sebum production, and should lead to calmer skin. On top of the linoleic acid content, rosehip oil is packed with Vitamin E, polyphenols, and anthocyanin, all of which can help to reduce inflammation. This makes it a great remedy when you have an active breakout, as you’ll find blemishes become less red and inflamed. Tackling both current and future breakouts? That’s a win in our book!
These fatty acids and antioxidants can be useful in other ways too, especially for those with mature skin or even dry skin due to the menopause. They help to boost cell regeneration, which means that you’ll have newer, glowier and plumper skin cells on the surface - hooray! Combined with the Vitamin A (aka. retinol) and Vitamin C found in Rosehip oil, both of which are natural exfoliants, your skin will be glowing in no time. Both vitamins are also used in the production of collagen, an abundance of which leaves your skin bouncy and firm. Rosehip oil has also been shown to combat an enzyme which breaks down existing collagen. Hello plump skin! All of these features mean that Rosehip oil could also help to reduce the appearance of scars and fine lines over time as skin regenerates.
Our Bio-Retinol + C Booster uses Organic Rosehip Oil to bring brightness back to dull skin.
Suitable for all skin types - £28
So, when should you use Rosehip Oil in your skincare routine? We love using our Bio-Retinol + C Booster in our morning skincare routine to boost our skin radiance and brighten our complexion! The cocktail of skin loving vitamins (A, C, F and E) is blended into a base of Rosehip Oil to give your skin everything it needs, just add a few drops in your favourite moisturiser and you’re ready to go - our go-to for a super speedy morning skincare routine.

The bio-retinol from the vitamin A will get to work on your skin during the night, and you’ll wake up with smoother, calmer skin. You can use the oil during the day, too, but don’t expect your skin to look completely matte. In fact, you can use this to your benefit: mix a drop in with your foundation and dot along your cheekbones for a lit-from-within glow!

Around 120 billion units of packaging are produced each year by the global cosmetics industry, and we’re very excited to lead the way in reducing some of the waste produced with our cutting edge grass packaging.
Our grass paper packaging is uniquely natural. It is made with up to 40% natural grass fibres which are harvested close to the factory where the cartons are crafted.
This natural production process results in cartons that are not only FSC certified and recyclable, but also completely compostable in your home compost bin.
With nature playing a leading role in the production process, you will notice that no two cartons are the same. Each carries a unique grass speckled pattern, and a subtle smell of freshly cut grass.
This is packaging that is as natural as our products.
One thing we will never compromise on throughout our green journey at Evolve is quality.
That’s why we’ve ensured our grass paper cartons are as strong and sturdy as their old cardboard predecessors, while being a lot better for the planet.
Compared to wood pulp packaging, our new grass paper cartons save on water, save on energy use and reduce the amount of CO2 produced during production.
All of that from one little compostable carton.
Composting is a great way to reduce waste at home. Composting turns what would otherwise have been waste into nutrient rich soil that you can use to grow flowers or vegetables, enabling us all to make certain waste products circular.
Our new grass paper is ‘OK compost HOME’ certified by TUV Austria meaning you can simply add your grass paper packaging into your garden compost bin and it will eventually biodegrade - just remember to remove the label first!
We are so excited to be one of the first beauty brands to use grass paper cartons and help others be a little greener in their everyday lives. Whilst we don’t promise to be perfect, we are always looking for eco-friendly solutions to be kinder to the planet, and we’re grateful you are sharing our journey with us!
We’re always looking for ways to reduce waste, and that’s why we will be rolling out our new grass paper packaging gradually for certain products.
To avoid wasting any of our cardboard cartons, we will be using them until they are gone and then switching over to our grass paper cartons.
We’re ready to change over most of our range to our new compostable cartons now, but you may receive an old carton whilst we work through our cardboard packaging.

Sleep is vital for health, and supports wellness in many ways including immunity. Sleep can be disrupted by many factors. If you are finding it difficult to get to sleep, or find it hard to stay asleep for 7-8 hours, then read more now.
The modern lifestyle can push stressors onto us that have huge effects on different areas of our daily routines.
These stressors can impact on our sleeping patterns meaning that we may not be getting exactly what we need to keep ourselves as healthy as possible.
Sleep is as important for your health as regular exercise and a balanced diet. In fact, during sleep your body heals itself and restores chemical balance. Yet it is something that a lot of us can often neglect. It’s vital that you try and learn the importance of sleep and the effects it can have on your body, skin, and mental health in particular.
The list of benefits that ensue after a good night’s sleep goes on and on. But here are some of the most prominent factors that show why you shouldn’t take sleep for granted:
You are probably familiar with the irritable moods and fatigue that can follow a bad night’s sleep. But the truth is that there are a number of ways that lack of sleep can disrupt your health.
Memory Issues
Whilst you are asleep, your brain has the ability to form connections that can help you to process and retain new information. A lack of sleep can hinder this ability and negatively impact both your short and long term memory.
Mood Swings
Tiredness can be the answer to negative moods, and can lead to becoming quick tempered and emotional. If you suffer from chronic sleep deprivation then these moods can quickly lead to feelings such as anxiety or depression.
Risk of Diabetes
Lack of sleep can affect your body’s release of insulin - a blood sugar lowering hormone. Those who struggle to get enough sleep tend to have higher blood sugar levels and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Dull Skin
When you miss out on sleep, or don’t get as much as you need, your cortisol levels can increase. Cortisol triggers inflammation which then breaks down proteins found in the skin. These proteins are often what keeps skin ‘glowing’, meaning that increased cortisol levels can lead to dull skin.
Dry Skin
If you are experiencing lower levels of sleep then you may be experiencing a skin imbalance. Lack of sleep leads to your lower PH levels in the skin - causing an imbalance. This can cause the skin to stop producing the amount of moisture needed to hydrate the skin, eventually leading to drier skin.
Eyes
Most of us are used to frantically trying to fix dark under eye circles or puffiness after a late night but do you know why this happens? When you’re tired your blood vessels increase in size leading to more prominent dark circles. Not getting enough sleep can also result in poor water balance leading to the appearance of ‘puffy’ eyes.
Ageing
Sleep deprivation directly applies stress onto your body. This can change the quantity and integrity of collagen in your skin. Collagen is important for the elasticity of your skin, so when this is broken down the skin can show more noticeable signs of ageing by becoming thinner and losing firmness.
The recommended amount of sleep is between 7-9 hours per night. This may be hard to achieve for some, so Laura has compiled some helpful tips to help you reach your full sleeping potential!
Why not try turning your phone off an hour before bed? Blue light exposure can prevent the release of melatonin, the sleep hormone. This can either stop you getting to sleep or in some cases may stop you from having a restful night. By turning off your phone an hour or two before you go to sleep you are limiting your blue light exposure, which might be the answer to you getting a peaceful night.
Take a break from the daily news. We are surrounded by news stories on our phones, televisions and papers, and quite often these can be deemed as difficult or upsetting. These stories could trigger our flight or fight responses. These responses are designed to keep us alert in case we potentially have to evade a dangerous situation, meaning it could cause us to sleep more lightly. Maybe you could try avoiding the news for an hour or so before bedtime and instead focus on more relaxing activities such as reading.
In some cases, people are sensitive to electromagnetic frequencies that can come from phones or other electronic devices. If you believe that this could be the case for you then try to set these devices to airplane mode before bed and charge them away from your body. You could also try adding a grounding sheet to your bed that plugs into the earth socket of your plug. This will help to reduce these impacts on your body.
Overall, perhaps the best advice is to make sure you’re comfy! Before you sleep make sure to rearrange your pillows, blankets or whatever you need to feel comfortable throughout the night. This will also be a good opportunity to make sure your room is at the right temperature. Between 18-20 degrees celsius is deemed to be the best temperature for a good night’s sleep, so if that means opening a window slightly or adding a throw onto your bed to adjust then go for it!

YOUR NIGHTLY SKINCARE RITUAL MASSAGE
We've created a relaxing nighttime skincare ritual massage for you to follow, using all the products in your ritual kit.
We’re talking about:
If you’ve ever struggled to get to sleep, you’ll know how much of an impact it can have over every element of your life and health.
Emotionally, concentration, energy and mood are all impacted. And physically, the signs of sleep deprivation can show themselves in poor skin health, eye bags, inflammation, and an increase in skin conditions.
Sleep is when our body does its best work – healing and regenerating us ready to face the day ahead. It’s also when much of our skin regime is most effective.
But no skincare, regardless of how powerful it is, can do its best if we’re not getting rest.
So, in this article we’re talking about what can affect our sleep, and what we can do to support our slumber for the best health inside and out.
Sleep is as important for your health as regular exercise and a balanced diet. In fact, during sleep your body heals itself and restores chemical balance.
Humans need on average seven to nine hours of sleep to function optimally, but just falling to six hours can lead to negative impacts (hello, late night Netflix binge!).
Up to 30% of us report not getting enough sleep on a regular basis. That’s a lot of grumpy, people around.
Our skin cells are rejuvenated and healed during sleep. When you consider that skin is the largest organ in the human body, you can understand how quickly a lack of sleep could impact our appearance.
Even younger people will notice that without sleep we are more prone to fine lines, slower healing, and poor skin tone. Putting it bluntly, we look older, because our skin isn’t doing what it needs to to heal.
Conversely a great night sleep can lead to:
The importance of sleep really boils down to maintaining your physical and mental health. It is a necessity that you need every day and helps you to be the best that you can be.
Healthy sleep allows the brain to properly function allowing you to be alert and rejuvenated when you wake up.
Sleep is cyclical. We each have distinct phases that we go through that contribute to our overall ‘good night sleep’ guide.
Whilst we’re snoozing, we move through three stages that make up our rest cycles – and allow time for the nightly restoration of our skin.
During this phase the pituitary gland produces ‘somatotropin’, the human growth hormone, which contributes to the maintenance of healthy skin.
Without it your skin cannot repair itself from environmental stressors and day-to-day life and this shows itself with signs of premature ageing.
About four hours before we sleep, we start to produce melatonin, which tells our body it’s time to rest and during the second phase, the levels of melatonin continue to increase.
Melatonin supports the skin as an antioxidant that helps protect the skin from damaging free radicals (environmental aggressors that cause damage).
During the final stage we enter REM sleep (Rapid Eye Movement) and your cortisol levels begin to reduce along with skin temperature.
Cortisol the hormone that wakes us up, but also fuels stress. As we cool down, collagen production increases.
Collagen is the building block of skin health, found throughout the body. It’s responsible for elasticity and suppleness. Good sleep that promotes collagen production allows the skin to make its strongest recovery of the night.
On average we’ll move through three sleep phases a night, and the interruption of even one can reset the sleep process.
Other ways a lack of sleep can hinder your health include:
Risk of Diabetes
Lack of sleep can affect your body’s release of insulin - a blood sugar lowering hormone. Those who struggle to get enough sleep tend to have higher blood sugar levels and an increased risk of type 2 diabetes.
Dull Skin
When you miss out on sleep, or don’t get as much as you need, your cortisol levels can increase. Cortisol triggers inflammation which then breaks down proteins found in the skin. These proteins are often what keeps skin ‘glowing’, meaning that increased cortisol levels can lead to dull skin.

This smells so lovely that I can’t wait to get my head on the pillow! I’m fussy about scents but despite not being able to smell this before taking a chance and purchasing it online, it’s just perfect! It has a complex aroma that’s really herbal and natural but with sweet lavender undertones. I find the scent doesn’t linger too long so I do use quite a lot of this product but it’s better to be delicate than overbearing! Would heartily recommend…Evolve Customer
Lots of things can impact our sleep but particularly:
Laura, our founder, and chief skin expert is a huge advocate for the benefits of great sleep (and a mum of three so she knows a bit about a lack of rest).
Her advice has been hugely beneficial to loads of our team, so we’re sharing it here:
Switching your phone off an hour before bed can reduce blue light exposure. Too much exposure can prevent the release of melatonin, the sleep hormone.
This can either stop you getting to sleep or in some cases may stop you from having a restful night. By turning off your phone an hour or two before you go to sleep you are limiting your blue light exposure, which might be the answer to you getting a peaceful night.
It’s simply not practical to suggest we can avoid stress but reducing it after 6pm has clear sleep benefits.
Avoid the news at nighttime for a start.
We’re all prone to working a bit late these days, but if you’re brain is in work mode, it cannot switch straight to rest mode
But watch the temperature. Your bath needs to be hot, but not so much that it strips the skin. When you get out, DON’T bundle yourself straight into your PJs. The body temperature drop that comes is what triggers the need to sleep. It can be beneficial to have your evening bath an hour or so before bedtime to avoid overheating once in bed.
Consider a bath with magnesium bath salts. Magnesium is critical in good sleep and helps ease issues like restless leg syndrome.
Find a rectangle – perhaps a window or a picture. Imagine your eyes running up the side for four seconds. Hold for two then breathe out for six seconds. Hold for two then start again. This helps switch the brain from fight or flight, into rational and the body relaxes.
Calms has some great sleep stories. Enjoy your bath, Spritz your pillow with a sleep spray, then close your eyes and enjoy a good night story. It’s a great way to prevent overthinking.
It’s so hard to watch the clock tick down, but the more you obsess the less you sleep. Instead, read a book or take a gentle stroll around the garden with a herbal tea.
Cleanse your skin with an oil or balm cleanser first to gently and effectively remove the traces of the day. Enjoy the ritual of massaging the silky balm into your skin before applying warm water to transform it into a rich creamy milk. Rinse away.
2. Bathe beautifully
Step into a bath loaded with magnesium salts and aromatic essences to unwind body and mind. Avoid scrubs at bedtime – they start the heart pumping and wake you. Simply breathe and chill.
Gently massage from top-to-toe with a body oil to aid cell rejuvenation. This is especially important if you’ve stretch marks which are more likely to improve when cared for at night.
Slather your feet in a rich body butter and cover with cotton socks for an overnight softener that works to remove dead skin and cracking without discomfort
Grab a gua sha and carry out your night-time skincare regime. Pay particular attention to the eye area and lips. Moisturise and massage in a nourishing and hydrating nighttime moisturiser such as Nightly Renew Facial Cream that is designed to renew and detoxify skin while you sleep. It contains Peony Extract to detoxify skin and add vitality to skin cells, as well as Bidens Pilosa - a bio-retinol that is especially effective in reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and best used at bedtime.
Our Tranquility Essence Pillow Spray is a must-have to help you create a relaxing and calming environment in your home and help improve your sleep naturally.
We have used a tranquil blend of Lavender, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang and three other essential oils which aids relaxation, helping to ease your nerves and clear your mind from the stresses and strains modern life can place upon it.
We love using two sprays onto our pillows around ten minutes before we go to bed, to help us enjoy a peaceful night.

]]>With 40% of it earmarked for packaging, it can be hard to get away from. But by partnering with refill companies and upgrading their product packaging to compostable grass paper alternatives, Evolve Beauty are taking a stand against the plastic problem that is drowning our oceans, destroying our air quality, and leaching harmful chemicals into our soils.
That being said, oftentimes the lightweight versatility of plastic is required to make both shipping and storing products possible (and economical!).
For this reason, brands like Evolve, which have an environmental conscience, opt for the use of recycled PET plastic: a fully recyclable material which doesn’t leach nasty chemicals into the products or soil, and that’s the ONLY type of plastic you’ll find in any of their packaging.
Is There an Alternative to Plastic?
It’s no secret that plastic recycling rates are poor at best (we’re looking at you PVC). But glass? Well, that’s another story. In the U.K alone an impressive 69-75% of glass gets recycled. And even if it does end up in landfill — or worse, the ocean — unlike plastic, glass is inert so won’t release harmful substances, helping to lower its environmental impact even further.
Reusable, refillable, and infinitely recyclable, glass is the perfect packaging alternative for a number of items. For personal care and household cleaning products, there’s another added advantage: glass is non-reactive so it won’t interfere with the chemical make-up of the product inside, ensuring its effectiveness is preserved.
With Evolve’s mission rooted in creating products in both a sustainable and ethical way, they already opt for glass packaging for many of their cult products, allowing you to enjoy the results you love without the environmental impact. Partnering with refill services, customer favourites like the multi award winning Hyaluronic Serum and Daily Detox Facial Wash can now also be found in refillable versions too. It’s just another step forward in Evolve’s mission to become a circular skincare brand.
What Are the Environmental Benefits of Refilling and Reusing?
As a nation, our goal should be to prevent as much waste as possible from going to landfill, and with forward-thinking brands like Evolve, it’s becoming easier for the average consumer. Experts estimate that landfills could reach capacity as early as 2023, meaning time is running out to make a change.
The environmental benefits of ditching plastic in favour of refillable and reusable packaging are clear:
As an added bonus, refillable and reusable products come in sleek glass bottles and jars and look much better than mounds of plastic cluttering the shower, sink, and cupboards. But as a fan of Evolve, you already know this! They’re also often more cost-effective than buying a complete replacement, so you can save the planet and your bank balance in one go!
It’s time to make the switch.
Join the Refill Revolution
If you’re looking to lower your environmental footprint and join the refill revolution then signing up for a refill service like charrli is one of the easiest ways to do it.
While it’s true that some larger supermarkets offer refill options, your choices are limited and it still doesn’t address the problem of plastic. For those without access to, or time to visit, an independent bulk/zero-waste store, a refill service is an easy and convenient solution.
No need to worry about remembering your containers, running out of product when you need it most, or calculating the tare weight. A refill service delivers everything you need — from washing up liquid and shampoo to pantry items and skincare — directly to your door. Available as one-off deliveries or subscription services, once products are empty they get picked up with your next delivery, cleaned, sterilised, and refilled so the cycle can begin again.
charrli partners with zero-waste stores around London to provide a carbon-free delivery for all your favourite household products from independent, sustainable brands — including Evolve! For the Londoners reading this, discover when they’re in your area and start refilling today.

]]>We are now so used to seeing the images of bendy figures doing yoga on social media, that it can be easy to forget that yoga is an internal practice. By this we mean that it works your mind and your emotional wellbeing as well as your body. We break down the ways in which yoga can help you love the skin you’re in body, mind and soul.
The physical practice of yoga - whether it is in a dynamic, fast paced flow class or a more gentle class meets the needs of your body. We’re so trained to believe that movement is related to punishment, that we don’t always stop to ask ourselves what sort of movement would help us most? We might need the heart-racing, blood-pumping thrill of a run or other aerobic exercise to keep our hearts healthy and to release feel-good endorphins, or we might need to soothe ourselves by allowing for a more somatic flow. Are we able to slow down enough and listen to what our bodies are telling us? We might have bought the line ‘no pain, no gain’ but in reality, our bodies need to move in different ways. So pause today, before you move in a habitual way and show yourself love by moving in the ways you need. Whatever you choose: moving in an intentional and mindful way helps you to literally develop glowing skin.
Yoga has been shown to reduce stress hormones in your body and these can prevent stress-related breakouts of spots. In addition to this, yoga’s focus on breathing helps to oxygenate the blood and delivers more oxygen and nutrients to your skins. Some yoga poses are particularly helpful for bringing a glow to your skin. Inversions which bring your heart above your head bring blood circulation to your face. So even the simple act of folding forwards to touch your toes can help you to achieve more glowing skin and increase elasticity.
Yoga is ultimately about self-transformation and quite often comes with the instruction to focus on what is happening on your own mat rather than worry about what someone else is doing. Practicing yoga makes you realise two things quickly: firstly that your body and life experience are unique. Some people have longer leg bones which means it’s easier for them to wrap themselves in complicated shapes. Yet, in yoga, there is a greater focus on the journey rather than the destination. So, as you try a complicated shape, are you able to be kind to yourself? And if in the end, you find it isn’t possible, you might ask yourself what you have learnt in the process rather than beating yourself up. So, certainly yoga can help us develop a more glowing complexion.
More importantly, though, yoga teaches us how to accept ourselves and be less critical. When we pay our attention to how we talk to ourselves, we come to realise that we often give ourselves a really hard time and talk to ourselves in ways that we would never talk to our loved ones. Notice what you say to yourself when something doesn’t quite go the way you think it should and try to re-frame it. Instead of saying,”oh you’re stupid to have let that happen…” try, “oh dear, that’s a shame, but that could happen to anyone”. Not convinced? Ask yourself if it’s true. For any given mistake or unsatisfactory outcome, is it something that could have happened to anyone? And if so, would you have given a friend such a hard time?
Yoga is often referred to as a spiritual practice. This is because as well as focussing on the body and how we feel, yoga invites us to turn inwards, connect with our breath and with our ‘best’ self. One way in which to get in touch with what is good in our lives is to practice gratitude, even if you start out by noticing the smallest things that you are grateful for. This could be as simple as having clean water to wash your face with.
Practicing gratitude has been proven to have both physical and psychological benefits. People who practice gratitude sleep better, report fewer aches and pains, exercise more and are able to face challenges more mindfully. In addition to this, though, practicing gratitude helps us to develop more compassionate relationships with others, to open our hearts to others and to accept ourselves for how we are.
Movement for Modern Life is the UK’s number one online yoga platform. Their team of world class teachers bring yoga, meditation, pilates, mindfulness, qigong and inspired movement classes into your home. With over 1,400 on demand classes suitable for all levels, it’s no surprise Vogue magazine has dubbed them the ‘Netflix of Yoga.’

Whether that means spending more days makeup free and feeling more confident in your own skin, or developing your very own weekly self care Sunday complete with your favourite face mask and a nice warm bath...have you found any self care silver linings in lockdown that you're going to continue when it ends?
Here are some of our team’s lockdown keepsakes!
“I personally have done a lot more facial yoga/ gua sha/ jade roller and made a point to practice every day! As I have had to get up slightly later (with no school runs!), I made sure to do my whole routine in bed before getting up which is a really nice and relaxing way of starting the day. Schools are back in France and I have carried on doing the same routine before getting up, even with the school runs. Love it!”
Why not try using a jade roller after applying our Hyaluronic Serum 200? Perfect for giving your skin a morning boost of long lasting hydration.
“During lockdown, I stopped using makeup, and although before I was not confident with myself without makeup, I realized that it was fine and okay to be without it as well. I learned that "more" is not necessarily better, but instead embraced my skin and face just as it is, and became happy with it”
Use our Deep Clean Micellar Water to remove your make up and embrace your skin just like Lina!
“I have been addicted to my Rose quartz roller, I use miracle oil and roll on my face for a little break.”
Our Miracle Facial Oil contains natural retinol from Organic Rosehip and antioxidants from Organic Argan oil to regenerate and revitalise your skin.
“Over the past year I have stopped using mountains of serums and creams every day and have learned that using a good quality cleanser, toner, serum, and moisturiser are just what my skin needs. I take vitamins as well as eating healthier which has had such a big impact on my skin. I went from having dry, irritated and red skin because of my diet and extensive use of the wrong products for my skin, to finding my favourite 3 products and feeling so confident without makeup in my skin. SPF Moisturizers are a fave of mine now.”
Strip your routine back to basics with our Mini Routine Tester Bundle, featuring five travel sized products designed to care for your skin and hair in 5 simple steps.
“I've really taken advantage of the shorter commute, and take more time over my skincare routine. In the morning I like to do facial massage or Gua sha to perk and sculpt my skin up for a day of zoom calls, especially as I tend to go make-up free at home. If I'm feeling super tired or a bit puffy from too many lockdown snacks/wine I'll pop my gua sha in the freezer for 10 mins before using it. Works better than a shot of espresso!
In the evening I'll do the opposite and warm the gua sha up in a bowl of hot water. The heat really helps to relax the muscles and release any tension, plus it feels amazing (and as close to an at home spa treatment as you can get these days).”
Pair your facial massage or Gua Sha with our Bio-Retinol + C Booster and give your skin an instant brightening boost between zoom calls!
“My lockdown skin keepsake is my newfound love of facemists. Before lockdown I considered this a non-essential luxury item in my skincare routine, but now I couldn't be without one. My Daily Defence Moisture Mist is perfect for spritzing throughout the day to calm and refresh my sensitive skin, and as we begin to enjoy spending more time with friends and family I have been loving using it to set my makeup and refresh throughout the day.”
Keep your Daily Defence Moisture Mist in the fridge for a cooling spritz of hydration throughout the day!
“Over the past year or so I've really enjoyed experimenting with my skincare routine, I've built more confidence in mixing my products together, such as adding some Bio Retinol + C Booster into my Daily Renew Face Cream or mixing it with my Hyaluronic Serum 200. It's made my skin feel much more radiant!”
Our Daily Renew Facial Cream is the perfect base for your skincare cocktail, just add a few drops of your favourite oil or serum and become a skin scientist like Sarah.
But unfortunately, once we have become so used to seeing perfect skin flaunted everywhere from our favourite films to the pages of our magazines, skin confidence can become an issue.
What Is Skin Confidence?
At Evolve, we want to help you on your journey towards skin confidence. We believe that everyone’s skin is just as amazing as the next person’s and whilst that may be difficult to see for yourself, it is something that is super clear to everyone around you.
Skin confidence means feeling confident, beautiful and powerful in your own skin. This doesn’t mean loving your skin because it is perfect but because it belongs to you. We have all heard about having ‘good hair days’ but what about good skin days? We all have a different idea of what ‘good skin’ might look like, but whatever your version is you know that when you feel like your skin is at it’s best - you’re going to feel good. This is how we want you to feel every day!
How Can I Build Up Skin Confidence?
Building up confidence whether it is in regards to your skin, body or just yourself in general is a personal journey that can take a lot of time, work and self love. There are a few starting points that are popular ways of beginning your confidence journey, from slow beauty rituals to daily affirmations. No matter what journey you decide to take, it is important to remember that your skin is beautiful, no matter what your idea of beautiful skin is.
We got in touch with Shahroo Izadi, who is a Behavioural Change Specialist and bestselling Author of The Kindness Method and The Last Diet. Shahroo’s mission is to help people to make lasting changes in their behaviour by learning to be kinder to themselves - here is what words of wisdom she had when it comes to building skin confidence.
“When it comes to changing our habits, one of the greatest tools we have at our disposal is the way we speak to ourselves; and yet so few of us stop to simply listen-in to our default internal soundtrack. Learning to be your own cheerleader means potentially being able to motivate yourself 24 hours a day. The problem is of course, it's easier said than done.
Often; whether it's when we're judging our skin in the mirror or when we've sent an angry email in haste that we later regret, we speak to ourselves in ways we'd never dream of speaking to a stranger, let alone someone we care about, want to motivate and wish the best for. Not only do we not deserve this, it also doesn't help to build the resilience required to create new habits and it often lends itself to unhelpful 'all or nothing' thinking.
One exercise that can help a lot to combat negative self-talk requires only a pen and paper (or even just the 'notes' section on your phone). First, write down the name of the person you love most in the world. Next, imagine that they've come to you and said they were finding it hard to stay on track with changing a habit. Then, write down all the things you'd say to them to make them believe in themselves and feel worthy of achieving their most valued goals. Finally, cross out their name and replace it with your own. The next time you suspect you might be giving yourself a hard time, commit to glancing at those messages and ask yourself if you can start to practice closing the gap between what you deserve to hear and what others do.”
Here are some other ways that the Evolve team love using to build our own skin confidence!
Slow Beauty Rituals
Slow beauty rituals are great ways to spend more time getting to know your skin and enjoying the mindfulness aspect of skincare, as well as helping you to make sustainable choices. The best first step to take on any slow beauty journey is to look for products made with natural ingredients. For centuries our ancestors have been using natural ingredients on their skin, and there is one simple reason for it. It is because they work! Nature knows best when it comes to caring for your skin, rather than a short lived trend that uses mass produced products.
Slow beauty products focus on improving your skin’s own functions, like the rate of cell turnover, meaning that the results of the product can be seen long after you apply it. This means that it is important to stick to your routine so you can give your products time to work their magic. It’s recommended to try a new product for at least 28 days to really see the benefits, something you wouldn’t be able to dedicate to if you’re jumping on board with a short lived fad.
Affirmations
Affirmations are positive phrases that you can repeat to yourself to help you build confidence and overcome any negative thoughts and energy you may be feeling. When you repeat these statements to yourself, and begin to believe in what you are saying, then positive reinforcement can take place.
If you are feeling negative about how your skin looks, try looking at yourself in the mirror and picking out three things that you deem positive. It could be anything from how your freckles show up each time the sun shines, or how your soft laugh lines remind you of happy memories shared throughout your life, to how your eyes light up when you think about some of your favourite things. Turn these into your daily affirmations, and repeat to yourself each day - why not repeat when you indulge in a slow beauty routine?

At Evolve we have become Climate Positive. By becoming Climate Positive, we are able to offset 110% of the emissions we have measured so far. This means that we are helping to remove more carbon than we are producing as a business.
We will be working with Earthly to help fund the BAM REDD+ Brazil Nut Concessions project in Peru, which focuses on rainforest conservation, and aims to reduce deforestation in over 300,000 hectares of Peruvian Amazon and reduce millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere due to illegal deforestation. So we knew straight away who to ask some eco expert questions - Olivia Crowe, Head of Research at Earthly.
There has been a call for us to set a global goal and become ‘nature positive’ by 2030. Achieving this would mean reversing nature loss over the next decade and setting it on the path to recovery.
A big change I hope to see is businesses reducing and internalising the negative impacts they have on nature - similar to how they are reducing and removing their carbon footprints to curb climate change. The main challenge is to find ways to measure biodiversity, the variety of plant and animal life, so that businesses can set targets to become nature positive.
As a starting point, large businesses could set up a biodiversity taskforce and collaborate with other organisations to better understand the impact they have on nature and calculate their biodiversity footprint.
Definitely the Pleistocene Park in Chersky, Siberia. I had the opportunity to meet the son of founder Sergey Zimov, an Arctic ecologist, during my Masters. The idea of the family-run project is to return the ecosystem to the way it was 10,000 years ago, when many large animals like mammoths used to roam the landscape. Large plant-eating mammals make nature more productive, which means it is easier for plants to grow, so the Zimov’s have been putting them back into the landscape.
One of the most exciting aspects of the project for me is the possibility that putting animals back in the landscape will slow down the melting of the permafrost - one of the largest reserves of carbon in the world. To find out more check out the website: https://pleistocenepark.org/
The easiest choice for me has been walking, biking or using public transport to get around where I live as opposed to using a car. If I’m going to the shops, I usually bring a backpack so I can carry my shopping home.
My favourite switch is making sure my savings (and pension) are in sustainable funds that contribute to society and help the environment - as opposed to fossil fuels.

Another project that we are working with at Evolve is taking out twice the amount of plastic waste from the environment as we introduce to it. To do this we have a partnership with rePurpose Global, which also made us the first Plastic Negative beauty brand in the UK!
We will be helping to fund our rePurpose Global partner, CARPE India and impacting on a project that is focussing on multi-layer plastic packaging recovery in Aurangabad, India with the goal of removing as much multi-layer plastic packaging from the environment as possible. So, we also got in touch with our second experts - the team at rePurpose Global!
Here at rePurpose Global, we believe that restoration efforts start with system building which requires finance naturally.
Over the next decade, we hope to be able to scale up efforts in restoration by focusing our attention increasingly on being able to finance and establish self-sustaining systems. For example, the creation of multiple Material Recovery Facilities that can go forth and generate income from being able to sell the recovered waste that comes through means that the payoff from a project will be across years to come.
Sustainability as a sector, and we here at rePurpose Global, are trending towards scoping more circular systems like this.
A really cool restoration project we have seen has been Clearbot - a swarm of trash collecting robots that use AI-Vision to detect and collect trash from water bodies. These robots are fully autonomous, solar-powered and work as a team to remove trash. You can check out more about this interesting project here.
A great project we have been involved with has been with our Impact Project based out of Aurangabad, India which focuses on Solid Waste Management solutions. Before establishing any new project, they follow a process called BOTRAM in order to enable urban local bodies to provide effective SWM services by optimizing existing resources following the BOTRAM process.
As far as possible, always opt for a reusable bottle. But sometimes buying a bottle is just unavoidable. In that case, try to only purchase clear PET bottles because they are the most readily recyclable. You can also turn that occasional cheat bottle into an eco brick. An ecobrick is where you take any plastic bottle and fill it with non-recyclable, dry goods such as wrappers and plastic bags. Forming the habit of EcoBricking your waste is a giant step towards a zero-waste lifestyle. You can learn more about EcoBricking here.
Here are a few tips for sustainable switches:
- Instead of shampoos and conditioners packaged in plastic bottles, go to the bar instead! Many hair care companies sell shampoo and conditioner bars. Shampoo and conditioner bars typically use more eco-friendly products, fewer ingredients, and less harmful additives. Plus they cost less and still leave your hair looking fabulous. If you can’t part the bottle, there are companies that offer refillable shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel products in stainless steel bottles.
- Making coffee at home? Consider reusing your old coffee grounds! In the garden, you can use it as a pest repellent, fertilizer, or even compost it for later. At home, you could use it to absorb food odour in the fridge, as an abrasive to scrub away stuck-on food, make homemade candles, or even to exfoliate your body by making it a scrub.
- Instead of buying store-bought sodas in a plastic bottle, consider making your own! For example, you can make ginger beer at home with just three ingredients. You can make homemade ice tea, lemonade, and even hibiscus soda!

]]>Ecosystems, from farmlands to freshwater and forests to cityscapes, are an essential part of our lives. The condition and diversity of these ecosystems are at the basis of our prosperity but they are still being degraded, with over 4.7 million hectares of forests - an area larger than Denmark - being lost every year.
This loss is depriving the world of carbon sinks - anything that absorbs more carbon dioxide from the atmosphere than it releases - such as forests, which has led to global greenhouse gas emissions growing for three consecutive years and the planet heading towards potentially catastrophic climate change.
Restoring our ecosystems means coming together as a planet and repairing billions of hectares of land – an area greater than China or the USA – so that people have access to food, clean water and jobs.
In the long term this means bringing plants and animals back from the edge of extinction, but in the short term there are so many things that we could all do to help from recycling and reducing our waste, to growing trees and rewilding our gardens.
At Evolve, our aim is to move beyond sustainable and to eventually aim to become regenerative. Regenerative means our impact is not zero, it is actually positive: restorative for the planet and restorative for body and mind. Here are just a few of the initiatives we’re currently running!
We have switched from our old wood paper cartons to fully compostable grass paper cartons which will produce 75% less CO2 emissions than wood pulp, and save 99.9% in water usage.
Our carbon footprint is our responsibility, and that’s why our plan to eliminate it is already in action. Firstly we need to measure our emissions, then put an act into place to ensure an immediate reduction in carbon emission, and then finally we can take steps to offset the emissions that are remaining. This plan will result in Evolve becoming a Climate Positive company by 2023.
Whilst we are on our journey to net zero carbon emissions, we believe that we need to take responsibility for the environmental impact we are having now. So we’ve joined forces with Earthly to offset 110% of our measured emissions by supporting their BAM project in the Amazon Rainforest which is helping prevent deforestation and reduce carbon emissions.
This project is focussing on rainforest conservation in the heart of Peru, and it aims to reduce deforestation in over 300,000 hectares of Peruvian Amazon and reduce millions of tonnes of carbon dioxide entering the atmosphere due to illegal deforestation.
Alongside this project we also use 100% wind power with energy efficient lighting to run our workspace which saves an average of 5.4 tonnes of Co2, use around 200 organic ingredients which means that an average of 3.5 tonnes of extra carbon dioxide per hectare is sequestered by the soils compared to conventional farming, and we have also switched from wood to grass paper cartons which will save 75% of Co2 emissions.
Thanks to our partnership with rePurpose Global, we are now contributing to the removal of twice as much plastic from the environment as we use in our packaging and shipping, making us the first Plastic Negative beauty brand in the UK!
Our Plastic Negative accreditation means that we are taking out twice as much plastic from the environment as we introduce to it. We will be helping to fund our rePurpose Global partner, CARPE India and impacting on a project that is focussing on multi-layer plastic packaging recovery in Aurangabad, India with the goal of removing as much multilayer plastic packaging from the environment as possible.
The organisation is focussed on ethically collecting and disposing of hazardous MLP (Multi-laminate plastic) waste. This type of plastic is virtually indestructible and accounts for 53% of the plastic waste in Indian cities. If it is left uncollected, it will remain in oversaturated landfills for hundreds of years, or eventually leak into the oceans where it will break down into microplastic and be ingested by marine wildlife.
Palm oil, which is used in 70% of personal care products, is a major source of deforestation and it also contributes to the destruction of the habitat of some of the world's most endangered species such as the Orangutan, Pygmy elephant and Sumatran rhino.
Directly or not, we have an impact on both of these areas and that is why we are putting in place a plan to lessen our reliance on both trees and unsustainable Palm Oil.
We have been working hard to reduce the amount of palm oil we use in our range, and our goal is to replace all of our palm oil sources with sustainable sources that are certified by the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil.
Plastic is a useful material because it is durable, unbreakable and light to transport. However if it ends up in landfill and is not recycled, it can be harmful to the environment. 60% of our components already contain some recycled content, and all of our plastic bottles are also recyclable, but our pumps cannot be recycled in household waste because they contain metal components, and they cannot be made of recycled material because they contain precision parts that need to fit together very exactly to work properly, making them a single use item.
As well as making sure all of our plastic components can be recycled, we want to make sure they actually are recycled. 50% of Brits don’t recycle their bathroom waste products such as shampoo, conditioner and shower gel bottles simply because it’s inconvenient. This equates to 2.7 billion plastic bottles hitting our landfills every year.
We’re inviting our customers to reuse their plastic pumps in our ongoing Dump The Pump campaign to save on single use plastic. We want to encourage our customers to make one small simple change to their beauty routine which, when done across the entire Evolve family, will make a huge difference to the number of plastic pumps we send out. So we’re asking you to Dump The Pump next time you shop, and reuse the pump you already have.
Our long-term goal is to make every product we sell pump-free. This means that if you would like a pump with your product you will need to request one, and that receiving a pump free product will become the default for the Evolve family.
However, we understand that the transition needs to be gradual, and that is why we have a large range of pump free products. To encourage more people to choose our pump free options you’ll be able to save £1 per product, per purchase when you Dump The Pump.
Become Part Of #GenerationRestoration
There are so many small ways that you can take part and make a difference this decade of restoration. Steps such as turning to green alternatives, like organic skincare, and reducing your plastic waste are all steps in the right direction, and if we all take small steps together we can make a truly positive impact on our planet.

]]>One cause could be not getting enough sunshine.
Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin and plays a key role in helping our bones and muscles be as healthy as they can be. A Vitamin D deficiency can lead to low bone calcium and increase risk of fractures, and we may be more prone to cold and flus.
Whilst getting more sun exposure can help us boost Vitamin D in our bodies, too much UV radiation can come with its own complications. From sun burn to skin cancer, how can we safely receive the benefits of the sun without risking the health of our skin.
Read on to find out how to get healthy sun exposure and what you can do to boost the benefits from the sun.
The sun emits three different types of UV rays: UVA, UVB and UVC. UVC do not actually reach the Earth’s surface as they are blocked out by the ozone layer so we only need to be concerned about the first two.
When UVB rays reach our bodies, they convert the chemicals present in the skin into Vitamin D3. This Vitamin D3 is carried to the liver and kidneys and transforms this into an active form of Vitamin D.
The body needs a healthy amount of Vitamin D as it helps to regulate calcium and phosphate intake in the body. It also helps intestinal absorption of these nutrients. Low absorption is considered to be at 10-15% and a normal rate at 30-40%.
There may be several reasons why you’re not producing enough Vitamin D in the body. These could be staying indoors too much or using SPF.
ONE: Using SPF can block Vitamin D production
While using SPF is important to protecting the skin against sunburn and skin damage, it can lead to Vitamin D deficiency.
There are two types of sunscreens: chemical and physical.
Chemical sunscreens absorb the sun’s UV rays and transform this into heat which is then released from the body. Physical sunscreens reflect the UV rays.
When it comes to a lack of Vitamin D, this means that the UVB rays are never actually absorbed into the skin.
TWO: Staying indoors too much
UVB is responsible for that chemical reaction that helps our bodies create Vitamin D. The problem with this is that UVB rays cannot penetrate through windows. This means that for all of us that are working from home more often, we may not be getting the necessary sunlight that our bodies need.
THREE: Showering too soon after going outside
It can take up to 48 hours for the UVB rays to make Vitamin D3. This means that it sits on the surface of the skin and can take a while before it enters your bloodstream.
Showering too soon after going outside will wash any form of Vitamin D3 away and contribute to Vitamin D3 deficiency.
As we mentioned before the sun’s rays contain both UVA and UVB and they are responsible for damage within the skin.
Sun damage can typically look like sunburn but can also appear in the long term as fine lines, wrinkles, sunspots and intense dryness.
Long and intense exposure to the sun without proper protection can also lead to skin cancer, so it is important that we use SPF to protect the skin.
When weighing up getting a healthy dose of Vitamin D each day versus protecting the skin from sun damage, it can be difficult for us to navigate healthy sun exposure.
Getting your daily Vitamin D dose each day only takes around 10-20 minutes in the sun. If you have a darker complexion, you may need slightly more.
In the UK, spending only 13 minutes outside, three times a week at noon will allow you to maintain healthy levels of Vitamin D for fair-skinned adults. Those with darker skin may need to spend around 30 minutes.
If you choose to spend longer in the sun, you can apply sunscreen after 30 minutes to prevent burning, remembering to protect the delicate eye area to prevent sun damage.
If you have particularly sensitive skin on the body or face, you can choose to wear sunscreen in these areas. Some scientists suggest that only a third of the skin needs to be exposed in order for your body to produce Vitamin D.
Getting safe sun exposure is important as Vitamin D can reduce cancer risks by as much as 60% and also reduce the chances of chronic inflammation and diabetes.
If you have particular skin sensitivities, you can still apply SPF throughout the day and take Vitamin D supplements as an alternative. Be sure to take these alongside Vitamin K3 and Calcium for better absorption.

]]>Sunscreens are a particular problem as many of them contain chemicals that can bleach corals and cause environmental stresses on the marine animals that inhabit these areas.
Because of this, we choose to formulate our SPF products using only reef-safe ingredients to ensure that we protect our skin and our environment at the same time.
Read on to find out the problem with sunscreens and how Evolve Beauty is helping to tackle this issue.
Most sunscreens on the market are formulated with oxybenzone or octinoxate. They are widely used in the industry as they block UV radiation and protect the skin from sun damage.
When we wash this sunscreen off at the end or the day, or swim in the ocean, these chemicals get washed off and enter our water system. For the environment, it can have detrimental effects.
Corals absorb these chemicals and can change the way corals reproduce and grow. This leads to coral bleaching.
For the marine life that inhabit these areas, the chemicals can damage the growth of green algae and the reproductive system of sea urchins, fish and dolphins.
In 2016, Hawaii banned over the counter sunscreens that contain ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxate and went into effect at the start of this year. The ultimate goal was to protect their marine ecosystems and reduce the harmful effects on Hawaiian coral reefs.
This month, we have launched new shades to our Climate Veil SPF 20.
We use non-nano zinc oxide as the SPF ingredient. What this means is that the particles of the zinc oxide are not small enough to penetrate our skin and sit on top.
This acts as a mineral sunscreen that reflects UV radiation off the skin.
Non-nano zinc oxide particles also means that coral reefs will not absorb these and disrupt their health.
Protecting our skin and our environment at the same time doesn’t have to be difficult, which is why we are committed to protecting our marine ecosystems using only reef-safe ingredients. Find out more about our Climate Veil Tinted SPF20 here.

]]>This excess waste contributes to plastic pollution in our environment, and causes issues like extinction, climate change and habitat loss.
Find out why plastic is a problem for our environment and which small changes you can make to live a little bit greener each day.
You may think that one or two bottles in your general waste bin doesn’t add up to a lot, but this actually equates to 2.7 billion plastic bottles hitting our landfills each year.
Whilst plastic is a highly durable material, making it a popular choice of packaging in cosmetics, food and other industries, it can take up to centuries to degrade. This, paired with plastic packaging not being recycled correctly, means that it can pollute our ecosystem by flooding our oceans and lands.
Plastic packaging and microbeads are particularly harmful to marine life where animals get tangled up in litter and can even ingest it, harming the food chain as a whole.
Globally, only 9% of plastic is recycled.
In the beauty industry alone, 95% of packaging is thrown out after one use and only 14% of this makes it to a recycling centre.
Recycling is one of the best ways we can reduce our waste at home. By separating our general waste from recyclable materials, we are conserving resources that can be turned into other things.
One simple tip that you might not have thought of is putting a recycling bin in your bathroom!
As we mentioned before, around half of people in the UK do not recycle their bathroom waste because of the inconvenience. However, a lot more people recycle their kitchen waste.
Having a recycling bin in your bathroom will encourage you to recycle those plastic bottles and save them from going into landfills.
There are also lots of other options to make your beauty routines a little greener! From using reusable bamboo pads to investing in multi-use products to further reduce waste and save money!

As a company, we’re committed to reducing our plastic waste as much as possible.
This is why we’ve implemented several strategies to help us and everyone at home reduce their plastic waste. This includes being a Plastic Negative beauty brand and reducing our plastic packaging.
In January, we published our first ever Sustainability Report. This is a report that we will now release each year to outline our sustainability goals and hopes for the future. We broke this down into five key sustainability pillars, one of which is being Zero Waste - an initiative on how we tackle the problem with plastic.
As a company, we already try to use as little plastic as possible. 60% of our packaging contains some recycled element to it and all plastic bottles and lids are 100% recyclable.
However, we want to go the extra mile in our journey to becoming a circular beauty brand by reducing our waste as much as possible.
Our partnership with rePurpose Global is a project that helps to remove twice as much plastic from the environment as we use in our packaging and shipping. It takes place in Aurangabad, India, helping to eliminate multi-layered plastic from the environment.
This year, we hope to remove 10,680kgs of plastic from the environment and save 30kg of CO2 emissions!
Our partnership also helps to provide 150 workers and families with additional income, and it also means that we are the UK’s first Plastic Negative beauty brand!
We are so proud to be leading the change against plastic as a beauty brand and to have each product carry a Plastic Negative Footprint. This means that whenever you purchase a product with Evolve Beauty, you are also helping to reduce plastic waste in the environment!
Earlier this year, we set out a campaign to encourage everyone at home to become a little more greener in their everyday lives through Dump the Pump.
The goal is to reduce personal care plastic by encouraging customers to reuse their existing pumps and purchase refillables across our range.
Pumps are a particular problem in the beauty industry as they have metal and plastic components to them, making it difficult to recycle. They are also usually thrown out after one use, meaning that pumps are continually repurchased time and time again.
We want to encourage customers that making a small change to their beauty routines can amount to a huge difference in the amount of plastic that is saved from the environment. So whenever someone purchases a pump-free product, another piece of plastic is saved from landfills!
Having launched this initiative in January, we have saved 1,100 pumps since January!
We hope to continue expanding our pumpless range so our customers can shop pump-free!
