No Nasties

every day the average person uses 10 products on their body and over 125 chemicals including carcinogens, pesticides, reproductive toxins, endocrine disruptors, plasticizers, degreasers, and surfactants. some of these ingredients penetrate the skin and accumulate in the body - scientists have found many common cosmetic ingredients in human tissues, including industrial plasticizers called phthalates in urine, preservatives called parabens in breast tumor tissue, and persistent fragrance components like musk xylene in human fat. for more information about this, visit www.cosmeticsdatabase.com.

all evolve products are formulated without chemicals that are known to be harmful, or are thought to be potentially harmful. we have signed up to the compact for safe cosmetics, a pledge that we support using products with safe ingredients.  

every evolve bottle displays our no nasties statement which highlights some of the main nasties that we avoid:

no nasties = no parabens, sulphates, silicones, phthalates, synthetic fragrances or colours

no parabens

parabens are a type of preservative which may be potentially carcinogenic and may act as a hormone disruptor.

we use a substitute preservative system made from basil and rice, and in some cases dehydroacetic acid, which is a safe synthetic preservative approved by our organic certification body ECOCERT.

no sulphates

sulphates are a family of cleansing ingredients including sodium lauryl sulphate (SLS) and sodium laureth sulphate (SLES) used in many shampoos and wash products. these ingredients go through a process known as ethyoxylation, which involves using ethylene oxide (a known breast carcinogen) to process other chemicals in order to make them less harsh, which can result in contamination by 1,4-dioxane, a known carcinogen. These ingredients are also known to be irritating and drying to skin.

we use substitute cleansers made from gentle vegetable derived materials which do not overly strip the skin or irritate it.

no silicones

silicones are petrochemical derived functional ingredients which sit on top of the skin and can stop proper cell respiration. we use vegetable derived oils and butters instead which have a better affinity with the skin and are absorbed to provide nourishment.

no phthalates

phthalates are hormone mimicking chemicals found in hair styling products and nail varnishes that can disrupt the functionings of the body and have been linked to feminisation of male babies. needless to say, we do not use them!

no synthetic fragrances or colours

synthetic fragrances and colours are complex blends of ingredients, some of which accumulate in the body and some of which are neurotoxins. Some also harm wildlife. They also contain sensitising ingredients that can cause skin allergies in susceptible people.

we use only natural fragrances approved by ECOCERT and no colour in our products.
